CED-IADR NEWSLETTER MARCH 2014

ABOUT CED-IADR AWARD AND STIPEND REGULATIONS How to apply to the different CED-IADR awards? Using the online abstract-submission process, the CED-IADR member must indicate that he/she wishes to participate in the CED-IADR Robert Frank Competition by checking the box representing the respective category he/she wishes to compete in. The different categories are explained at the CED-IADR website. The abstract submission deadline is April 17, 2014.

Robert Frank Awards (RF Awards) The CED-IADR Board encourages young CED-IADR members to participate in the CED-IADR Robert Frank Award Competition. Applicants should follow additional submission obligations described at the abstractsubmission web pages related to the award application. On the abstract form, the entrant must be listed as the first author and presenter of the abstract. Co-authors, if any, should also be listed in the abstract. In order to be considered for the competition, the contestant's research may before not have been published or presented at any major scientific meeting. First phase: The CED-IADR RF Award Jury will make a first pre-selection out of all abstracts submitted for the competition. All applicants will be

Tips to avoid technical difficulties during the presentation:

informed by email on the results of this first pre-selection. Second phase: The selected applicants will be asked to prepare an extended abstract, consisting of 2 pages, upon which a second preselection will take place. Third phase: The selected candidates have to present their abstract by means of 4 slides (without animation or movies) during a separate and closed session in front of a CED-IADR Robert Frank Award jury at the meeting this followed by a 5-minute discussion with the jury members. The presentation should cover the same material as reported in the abstract:

 The files should be saved on a USB Storage Device and brought along.  Images should be preferentially in JPG, PNG, GIF or BMP.  Suggested font are Times New Roman or Arial.  Keep visuals clear and simple; limit animation.  Contrasting colors work at best. Use light–colored fonts on a dark-colored background (or vice versa).  Five to eight lines per slide and five to seven words per line is the maximum.  Vary headings and subheadings with different sizes of lettering.  Maintain the same design and type size from slide to slide.

Slide 1: The Introduction will indicate the purpose of the study or shortly identify the research question.

Slide 2: The Materials & methods will describe briefly the procedures and materials employed. Materials and/or drugs should be identified, mentioning, if applicable, the sponsors of the study.

Slide 3: The Results should report the significant findings. Graphics should emphasize key points and provide the visual information the jury needs to understand the message.

Slide 4: The Conclusion(s) should briefly summarize the findings, how they answer the initial question, and how they are based or demonstrated by the experimental data. 5
