Deception Pass is located in Island County and there are the two channels separating main land Washington and Whidbey Island. It is a waterway that has gained a reputation as being "Washington's most active waterway because of the volume of water that travels through the channels during Puget Sound's tidal changes. During the tidal changes there are only two ways for water to leave or enter Puget Sound; around the southern tip of Whidbey Island the through Deception Pass. Since the passageways are so narrow the volume of water can move up to 17 knots in either direction.
Fort Casey was created in 1890 as part of a triangulation of three fortifications to defend the entrance to Puget Sound. The original lighthouse, built in 1858, was torn down when the fort was built and this one was built in its place in 1903. Within the state park you will find a small beachfront campground great for flying kites, the lighthouse and batteries, 68 picnic tables, 1.3 miles of trail and 10,810 feet of saltwater shoreline on Puget Sound. The park also includes Keystone Spit, about a two mile stretch of land separating Admiralty Inlet and Crockett Lake. While today this place may seem out of the way, it was once the heart of Whidbey Island. Early settlements relied on boats for both goods and travel. The growing popularity of the automobile and the construction of the Deception Pass Bridge in 1937 brought this era to an end. This was the town's fourth wharf, built in 1905 by a group of local farmers and merchants who wanted a structure long enough that boats could unload at low tide. This wharf extends 500 feet into Penn Cove. It is now owned and operated by the Port of Coupeville.

A year later, over a million sets of Tinker Toys had been sold. ❄ Historians have traced some of the current traditions surrounding Father Christmas, or Santa Claus, back to ancient Celtic roots. Father Christmas's elves are the modernization of the "Nature Folk" of the Pagan religions; his reindeer are associated with the "Horned God," which was one of the Pagan deities. ❄ In many households, part of the fun of eating Christmas pudding is finding a trinket that predicts your fortune for the coming year. 18
