A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility. Upon request, the school may disclose education records without consent to officials of another school district in which a student seeks or intends to enroll. [NOTE: FERPA requires a school district to make a reasonable attempt to notify the parent or eligible student of the records request unless it states in its annual notification that it intends to forward records on request.] 4) The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the school to comply with the requirements of FERPA. Summer is a great time to eliminate any dental surprises for the coming year. An examination could assure you no treatment is needed, or determine if any treatment would prevent future problems.

What’s New In Technology By PATRA BOOTS, Director of Technology Technology staff members have been very busy this summer with adding, moving, updating and upgrading technology throughout the district. This fall, more technology will be available to secondary students, with new computer labs being added at the high school and middle school. Additional student work stations have been added in high school classrooms. At Haller Elementary, the technology lab has been relocated to the “A” building, providing a space for testing and assessment environments to be less distractive and allowing “Blue Pod” to house four first grade classrooms collectively. Additionally, we have upgraded the district’s firewall to enhance the filtering and security capacity, and segmented our network to increase speed and network management. iPad technology was introduced in the school district last year, primarily in the special programs department and at the elementary level. This year, we will explore more applications to enhance student learning and achievement.
Gaggle® Continues
Secondary students (grades 6-12) will again have the use of Gaggle®, a secure student e-mail application that will allow all students e-mail access to communicate with teachers and school peers. Gaggle® will provide students digital storage space “in the cloud” for easy portability of digital resources from home to school and school to home, as well as “digital drop boxes” for submission of assignments. We look forward to providing additional training in this application for students and staff and expanding its use.
Student Internet Use
All K-12 students and parents must annually complete a District Internet Use Permission/Agreement form, acknowledging their understanding and agreement to abide by District Technology and Internet Use Guidelines.
Skyward Family Access
Family Access is a web-based application that provides parents with access to student attendance, grades, assignments, lunch account information, and more. School office staff will distribute family access logins and passwords for the 2012 -2013 school year. If passwords become lost or forgotten, parents can request login and password information in person (I.D. is required to ensure confidentiality) at their child’s school office. Staff will not release this information over the phone or by e-mail for security reasons. An added feature in Skyward this year is RevTrak and the ability to make online lunch account deposits. Secondary students will receive student access logins and passwords at school.
Wireless Access At Secondary Schools
Students at Sequim High School and Sequim Middle School can access the District’s wireless network on their personal devices using their student login and password. This will be possible when the District receives a signed Internet Use Agree-

ment from students and parents for the 2012 - 2013 school year. This is a secure connection that provides the same internet filtering processes that are employed throughout the school district network.
Register On The “Schoolwires” District Web Site
Schoolwires.com provides the District’s web page with a feature-rich content management system designed especially for schools. Look for our new look coming soon. We ask that parents and interested citizens “register” online at www.sequim. k12.wa.us to be eligible for available interactive services such as E-alerts and other specific “role” features. The District web site also features direct links to Family Access.
Sequim School District Now Accepting Credit & Debit Cards On April 12, 2012, Sequim School District began accepting credit and debit cards for payments for food services. Parents and guardians can now access RevTrak through their Skyward Family Access accounts to make food service payments. RevTrak integrates directly into our Skyward student information system. When a parent logs into Family Access, they can click on the food service tab of their student’s account and an option to make an online payment will be presented below their student’s food service summary display. There is a $2.10 convenience fee per transaction. When a payment is accepted, RevTrak automatically updates that student’s account and the funds are available to spend on their behalf in our cafeterias. We still accept cash and checks, but hope that RevTrak will make paying for food
service more convenient for our families as they can make a payment from wherever and whenever they may have internet access. We’re also working with the high school to add online payments so that parents will be able to pay 2012-2013 school year class fees and other costs online as well. In addition to the added convenience for families, we hope this will further encourage use of Family Access across all grade spans as right now our most active Family Access users have students in the middle or high schools. Family Access provides information on your student’s class schedule, grades, missing assignments, contact information for teachers, progress towards meeting graduation requirements, food service purchases and account balance, and any outstanding fees and fines that may be due. If you have questions about your Family Access username or password, please contact your student’s building secretary.

Sequim School District reserves the right to change bus routes and times as needed. Students in grades K-12 ride on buses together. Please check your student’s bus route and pick-up time listed below, as some routes have changed since last year. First day of school: The Transportation Department strongly encourages all students who intend to ride the bus do so on the morning of the first day of school (September 5, 2012). This will enable parents, students and bus drivers to become familiar with the bus stop routine. Students who plan to ride the bus need to be at their stop five minutes ahead of pickup time. Times and pick-up points listed below are approximations until exact enrollment and passenger loads are fixed. Please remember, if a bus passes waiting students, it may not be their bus. For the first day, new students will be picked up at all stops along routes, except for Hwy 101 East and West routes. The following are routes, not necessarily bus stops. Students will be advised after two or three days where the permanent bus stop will be. Every effort will be made to space stops approximately one-half mile apart, thus requiring a quarter-mile walk along routes. Exceptions will be made only on a case-by case basis due to special circumstances such as student safety or handicapping conditions. Safety reminder for Hwy 101 West & East students: All students living on Hwy 101 West or East must catch the bus at their designated stop. Do not cross the highway to catch the bus at a later time. Reminder for A.M. Greywolf Elementary students: Greywolf Elementary students are transferred to a shuttle bus in the Fir Street stadium parking lot. Kindergarten bus runs: Morning Kindergarten students will ride their regular route bus to school, and the mid-day Kindergarten bus home. Afternoon Kindergarten students will ride the mid-day Kindergarten bus to school and their regular route bus home. There will be mid-day Kindergarten bus runs. Parents of Kindergarten students may view these bus routes at the elementary school office. Bus drivers will not drop Kindergarten students at stops unless a parent or other designated adult is there to meet the child. If there is no adult at the stop, the child will be brought back to the school. Parents, for younger elementary students on regular bus runs, please have someone at the stop to meet the students, particularly on Hwy 101 East and West. All other students will ride the same route bus in the A.M. and the P.M. unless otherwise noted. Students who wish to get off at a stop other than their own, or who wish to ride a bus other than their own must have an official bus pass issued by the school office. Hand- written notes from parents will not be accepted. If you have questions, please contact Jeff Gossage, Supervisor of the Transportation Department, at (360)582-3274 or (360)582-3273.
