Before Hiring: ❏ Plan your project carefully. ❏ Interview several qualified registered contractors/remodelers and solicit written bids from at least three. ❏ Visit www.HiringAContractor.lni.wa.gov to confirm that the contractor is registered with L & I and verify their workers comp coverage if they will have employees onsite. ❏ Check out the contractor records with other consumer protection organizations such as the Better Business Bureau. ❏ Check for warning signs of a scam or fake contractor, e.g., too-good-to-betrue offers. ❏ Ask for references and be sure to check them out.
