President’s Message

Dear Members,

This year marks the 170th Anniversary of the Singapore Cricket Club. To celebrate the 170th Anniversary, come join fellow members at the many events we have lined up for the Celebration Week. The programmes kick off on Saturday, 19 November, with a week of both ticketed and walk-in complimentary events, culminating in a not-to-be-missed Clubhouse-wide Party on Saturday, 26 November from 7pm onwards. We have just come off the back of the SCC Night Race 2022 and what a weekend it was. Over 1,000 members and guests attended the event daily, enjoying the unique privilege of SCC’s location within the F1 circuit.

It was our pleasure to host our friends from The Tanglin Club for the 44th POT Games on 8 October 2022. Making their competitive debut at the Games were Chess and Mahjong. After a very close nail-biting series of games, SCC prevailed 6-5. A big thank you to all participants for maintaining the wonderful spirit of competition and camaraderie. To our SCC Members, a special thank you for your dedication and efforts in enabling us to regain the trophy.

This year marks the 20th year since the unfortunate bombings in Bali that took away the lives of many, including eight members of the SCC Rugby Section. As the Club has done every year since, Rugby Section members, Club members and friends gathered at sunrise on 12 October 2022 on the Padang to remember our lost fellow members, friends’ and teammates with a solemn and emotional memorial service. You can read more about it in the “Sports News” section of this magazine. On 17 October, after a two-year break, we held the annual Staff Party. With a Halloween party theme, staff members were creative with their fancy dress costumes. It was a wonderful celebration culminating in the very popular lucky draw with prizes generously donated by members, Sport Sections and well-wishers. The last two years were challenging for everyone and we would like to record our thanks to the staff for their patience and sticking with the SCC through this period.

After a two-year pause, the 73rd SCC International Rugby Sevens Tournament will return to Padang for the weekend of 12 – 13 November 2022. A total of 12 international teams have been invited to compete, including New Zealand’s Ponsonby and our own SCC Team.
