LIBRARY SURVEY An online, two part survey was conducted over the course of one week. This was done in order to gain a better understanding of library users preferences as well as their opinions on the current design for Memorial Library. Part one of the survey focused only on library and study preferences and was open to all current, former, and non-UW students. Part two of the survey was for individuals who have been to Memorial Library. In total, the survey gained 47 participants.

LIBRARY CONCEPT
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Located at the intersection of campus, community, and student living, Memorial Library is an overlooked and forgotten gem of the UW campus with the potential to become everyones favorite place to study. The goal for the library redesign is to design a ground level
that
invites
backgrounds,
for
and all
welcomes
reasons,
and
visitors
of
all
provides
an
innovative and inspiring space to expand knowledge, explore passions, and cultivate community.
INSPIRATION // THE BADGER BURROW
CONCEPT This concept and mood board combines the architectural qualities of the library's exterior with the natural landscapes of Wisconsin. Inspired by the badgers home, called a sett or burrow, this design is intended to feel warm, inviting, and comforting. This will be achieved through the use of natural materials, textures, and tones. While the existing plan will be altered
to create a more open
concept design, various nooks will be included throughout to create 'third places'. With this design, the library will become a home for everyone.
