Bringing Gas to Strabane

Who we are Evolve is a new company formed as part of the SGN Group to bring gas to the west of Northern Ireland. We will own and operate the mains, services and meter delivering gas within Coalisland, Cookstown, Derryline, Dungannon, Enniskillen, Magerafelt, Omagh and Strabane. SGN is the second largest gas distribution company in the UK and provides safe and secure gas supply to over 5.8 million customers across Scotland and the south of England. These networks consist of 74,000km of gas pipes ranging from high pressure transmission lines, to transport gas to major towns and cities, down to the low pressure networks, distributing gas to local communities.

Project scope Working with the Utility Regulator, we have agreed a plan for extending the low pressure network in the west of Northern Ireland and are currently developingmore detailed designs which will include timetables for each town. We will be constructing approximately 200km of pipeline linking eight towns to the existing network: Coalisland, Cookstown, Derrylin, Dungannon, Enniskillen, Magherafelt, Omagh and Strabane. In addition, we will also be laying a further 500km of gas mains and services within all the towns to deliver gas to home and businesses. Gas will first be available in Strabane in late 2016.

When will work take place? We will be constructing the new pipeline from Maydown to Strabane with a minimum of inconvenience and working with all those who may be affected. McNicholas has been appointed as the contractor and the work will commence on 2 November 2015, lasting for approximately 12 months.

Working hours Our planned working hours during the gas pipeline construction will be 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. These working hours may vary at times as the project progresses, depending on the exact stage of construction and available daylight hours. Occasional Sunday working may be required but this will be kept to a minimum.
