The mains pipeline is usually located under the road or footpath outside your home.
The service pipe runs under your garden or driveway and carries gas from the mains pipeline to the meter.
Customer installation pipework within your home delivers gas from the meter to individual appliances (e.g. boilers, cookers, fires).

SERVICE PIPE
MAINS PIPELINE
Your gas meter equipment.
Your gas installation is made up of 4 main parts shown in the picture below.
Meter - this measures how much gas you use.
Emergency Control Valve - this valve turns your gas supply on and off.
Regulator - this controls the pressure of your gas supply. Some need resetting when turned back on.
Appliances - these are things like the boiler, hob and gas fire.
STEP 1
Turn off your gas appliances.
Stop using gas by turning off all your gas appliances such as cookers and fires, and turn your heating off.
STEP 2
Locate your gas meter.
Your gas meter will be either outside or inside your property.
OUTSIDE - it will be in a white or brown box located at ground level, or fixed to an outside wall.
If your gas meter looks like this: Open the front lid, remove the securing bolt or screw. Then lift off the front cover.
INSIDE - it will normally be in a cupboard, the corner of a room or kitchen or occasionally at high level.

Turn off your gas supply at the meter.
Close the emergency control valve, which is normally to the left hand side of your gas meter. The emergency control valve should be turned clockwise (or anti-clockwise) until it is in the off position detailed below. The emergency control valve may be stiff to move and there may be a marking or label to confirm the direction needed to close.

Further updates will be shared on our website and local media channels and engineers will continue working to restore the supply to your area.
Important
Please do not attempt to take any further steps in turning back on your gas supply unless you have been officially told to do
Keeping warm.
We are working to restore the gas supply to your home. While your gas supply is off, here are some steps you can take to stay warm:
Reduce draughts in your home, especially around doors and windows, but never block up air vents.
Wear several thin layers of clothes – this will keep you warmer than one thick layer.
Keep your hands, feet and head warm.
Remember: Please make sure you don’t bring items like patio heaters and barbecues inside to keep warm as this can be highly dangerous.
STEP 5
Turn your gas supply back on at the meter.
Only start this step when we have confirmed it is safe for you to do so.
Firstly, make sure your appliances are still off and open up some windows.
Please return to your gas meter and slowly turn ON the emergency control valve.
Turn it so it is in line with the pipe it is connected to.
The next steps are to bring the gas up through your meter and to your appliances.
If your meter is inside, skip Step 6 and continue straight to Step 7.
STEP 6
Reset your regulator.
This is only applicable if your meter is outside and one of Types A, B or C below. Type D does not need reset but may be outside in your meter box!
1. Find your reset button/lever/handle.
2. Reset your regulator (make sure you have the right type).
If it has no reset feature and looks like this:
is an automatic reset and you can go to Step 7
STEP 7
Begin to turn on your appliances.
Now it is time to turn on your appliances and make sure gas is flowing to them and that they operate properly.
We would recommend you turn gas appliances on in the following order (where possible using manufacturer’s instructions), ensuring they are working correctly before moving onto the next:
Other appliances Fire
If your appliance(s) do not work at the first attempt simply turn them back off and wait for 5 minutes then try again. Do not attempt this more than three times.
