Welcome to Bristol School of Art 2018 Degree Show. The graduate show this year celebrates the success of our final year students, showcasing the work of Fine Art, Fashion & Textiles, Graphic Design and Media, Special Effects and Theatrical Make-up Design. We are proud of our students’ accomplishments, having worked closely with them throughout their degrees. In this turbulent world the need for creative, practical problem solvers is ever more needed and we believe that the skills learnt with us at Bristol School of Art will allow for this energised approach to creating solutions. In our 160 th year of Bristol School of Art we have included work from all our current undergraduate students to showcase the variety of skills, ideas and projects at all levels. We hope our personal approach and established reputation for offering quality education will shine through the exhibits, highlighting how students have discussed theories, contexts and a desire to share ideas. They are poised at the threshold, about to enter the professional world - having created their own career path and developed the relevant skills and understanding to propel them on their own exciting journey. This is Me is a short film influenced by my everyday life. I am a lover of things that might be seen as “scary. I created a film that was partly inspired by the horror film The Ring but also my day to day life. My aim was to create a film that had a strong horror influence and feel to it, but also to show that people find happiness and comfort in different places.

My assemblage style installation is informed by an engagement with the properties of the crates, and the unpredictable results of cyanotype printing. The illustrations convey the vulnerability felt at being at the mercy of the worlds social and political decisions, and my personal associations with the sea.

As a Graphic Designer I’ve been looking at playful design. I noticed how difficult it is to learn and develop as a child. I’ve been designing products that help kids build skills in a fun way. The educational qualities of my objects are designed to appeal to both parents and children alike inspiring adventure, allowing them to be creative and build confidence.

This piece was one of a three part series depicting the Seven Deadly Sins. I grouped them into Maliciousness, Excess and Deficiency. Deficiency is “the state or condition of being deficient. Through a lack of trying and indolence, deficiency and in turn decay can pervade. Created using a silicone facial prosthetic piece with airbrush paint and media make-up techniques.

I use icons and aesthetics from popular culture to create playful art that can surprise and be enjoyed by everyone. I explore what it would take to bridge the gap between Low Art and High Art, like material or scale. I’m currently interested in the high prices placed on collectable toys, and whether this monetary value gives them artistic value, and what this does to their original purpose.

Although her work carries dark themes, she sets out to juxtapose those themes with bold colour; illustrating the way in which we are forced to hide a magnitude of discontent behind a bright exterior.
