DCM: Storyboard To get a feel for how the ident could look me and Tom decided to start the Pre-production planning using still images to help visualise what we were both thinking. It’s hard to see someone elses vision without having a physical story board.

Question

Interpretation
The initial idea consists of asking members of the general public the question: “what’s your favourite film and how does it make you feel?”
Facial expressions tell a thousand words. How would you answer the question and what expression would you have on your face?
We then montage clips we feel explain the... We need to decide if the imagery is abstract, narrative based or both?

Question & Reaction...
I expect given the context of the filming that people will freeze under the pressure or require a moment to articulate a answer. This is normal.
Unless your Shakespeare how do you truly communicate linguistically that feeling? We feel this answers the brief
The moment when people contemplate that feeling should be interesting to capture. This is what we want to film - it will probably consist of: “Eeeerrrrrmmmm...” “You know...” “I feel...” “It’s like...”
“Your idea must bring to life the emotion of cinema.”

Interpretation?
After the initial pause a reaction we are going to show clips we feel connote emotion, through contextual and historical reference or maybe just powerful cinematography. This will be the challenging part. Neither me or Tom claim to be technical masters so we will have to experiment to get the best clips. We have begun to explore actions that we feel are emotional. The idea is to link the actions to the human expressions we collect.
Hopefully these actions will synthesise with the public. The list in not definitive : Candles/fire Lighting Motorbikes/speed Singers Opera Theatre Lanterns The sky Birth Death
Pool table Pint being poured Football crowd Referee’s decision Debit card declined TV smash Pigeons flying Slam dunk/basket ball point

Audio
Me and Tom do not claim we are sound engineers, but we think we can create a montage of sound that will complement the actions. The audio will not necessarily match the action. This is something that needs further consideration.

Age

Nationality
Although we used a range of ages we would of like to get some clips of children, unfortunately this wasn’t possible.
We like the idea of identity and we feel Hyde Park in Leeds has a variety of people. This could be replicated in other cities/countries.
The concept could be applied to other nationalities. It would be interesting to see how other people react to the same questions People find it hard to explain the emotion of cinema our ident helps answers the brief of how cinema evokes emotion universally.
