Project Summary London BA2 Studio Unit, Architecture This unit investigates the image of Japan. In attempt to challenge the concept of ‘TownTwinning this project explores Japanese culture, Life-Style, Social Structure and Architecture of that in Tokyo with London. The site is located in Brixton, London UK. And the brief asks us to draw upon the two cultures and carefully devise a piece of architecture that could solve a current issue in Brixton. Using multi-sensory techniques in videomaking combined with traditional Japanese methods of Joinery and hand crafted models, this project demonstrates careful craftsmanship and sensitivity of design to its context.

Film Investigation Phase one highlights a highly evolved , chaotic representation of neon-Tokyo through the work of Katsuhiro Otomo. Phase 2 shows through multiple media the complex relationship between the Japanese people and nature. Phase 3 suggests through the use of metaphor the idea of a utopian relationship between nature and being. Whereby the man-made and natural reflect darkness and light respectively as in the final image from Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. In contrast, phase 4 depicts the realities of Japanese life. Phase 5 utilises multi-sensory techniques to stimulate an idea of moving through a Japanese forest.

S
peculative visions about Bee-Keeping in the city of Valencia, Spain as assisting ecosystems.
This unit investigates ‘Contested Ecologies’. By Reimagining the Nature-Culture Divide, the ‘Hive’ is a vision that explores the different opportunities and forms of human/animal coexistence in an urban environment. ‘No Church In the Wild’ is an Allegory that represents the virtues and conflicts of society in attempt to use nature as a mechanism in correcting these issues. Each image presents a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. This section Uses a mix of illustrative techniques such as Hand drawings combined with digital editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Site. The cathedral was consecrated in 1238 by the first bishop of Valencia after the Reconquista, Pere d’Albalat, Archbishop of Tarragona, and was dedicated to Saint Mary by order of James I the Conqueror. It was built over the site of the former Visigothic cathedral, which under the Moors had been turned into a mosque. Valencian Gothic is the predominant architectural style of the cathedral, although it also contains Romanesque, French Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical elements.

Facade System. The inner works of the hive is shown in this section. The facade is removed to expose the structural and mechanical aspects of the hive. As seen, the Honey pipes flow throughout the building collecting, storing and distributing honey from the bee hive. The design works collectively with the hive, The building becomes the laboratory itself by allowing interaction of experimentation by various ladders which is designed to move across the facade allowing researchers and users to inÂteract with the natural elements
