Gond Paintings Gond paintings are folk/Tribal art form from the Central region of India, such as Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra .This beautiful art form got its name from the people who make this art form, Gond Tribe. The word Gond comes from Kond, which means green mountains in the Dravidian idiom. The Gond called themselves Koi or Koiture.


june 2016 Gond Art was drawn and painted on the walls and floors of the houses. Now, they are painted on canvas and paper as well. This Art form has gained popularity all over the world. Gond Art is inspired by nature, Gods and were made on festivals and special occasions to spread the vibrancy all over. Tools used to make these paintings:

 Brushes  Twigs  Pens  Match sticks  Toothpicks etc.

Gond paintings are made using natural colors from:  Charcoal  Colored Soil  Plant Sap  Leaves  Cow Dung  Modern days, people use Acrylic paints, watercolors etc.

The most beautiful part of this painting style is that with the use of simple Dots and lines, these Paintings take a magnificent and vibrant composition. Gond paintings involves a lot of intricate and majestic details in the artwork. This art form is an offering to worship the nature and warding off the evil. Gond Art, like other tribal and Folk art forms, celebrates life with the use of simple patterns and vibrant organic colors.

About the artist: I started exploring this beautiful art form from 2014. I am from Bihar-Jharkhand region of India and I always had the strong affinity towards learning folk and tribal art forms from India. I love the simplicity, vibrancy and the storytelling in the tribal art forms. I started practicing Gond inspired designs and patterns using pens and Markers and Acrylic paint. Once I started working on Gond art, I haven’t been able to stop exploring this art form. I love to create variations in my drawings and I love to
