EDITORS’ LETTER We are so excited to be introducing the BLUE edition of SHADE! This month blue was the central spring colour. Whether you need a calming colour to soothe your mind or a shade to help you ditch the distractions and focus, blue is the hue for you. It also just happens to be the world’s favourite colour, according to a recent YouGov study. (Soz, runner-up red!) Judging by the sheer madness that was 2016 (and, let’s face it, 2017 so far), it’s no wonder we’re craving a colour that helps us think clearly. When Victoria Beckham sent cobalt eyeshadow down the catwalk, we knew the blue beauty trend is going to be big. Blue showed up for SS17 in a variety of textures and hues, from glossy turquoise lids at Nina Ricci to sapphire smokey eyes at Giorgio Armani. So us at SHADE wanted to show you our favorite blue inspried makeup look by our blogger Lara, and is perfect for spring (p26). Additionally, we may have moved from skinny to boyfriend to mom jeans over the years - but thanks to the classic colour of denim, blue has featured heavily in our wardrobes from day one. For us, the question isn’t if blue is trending for spring but how. So we decided to share are denium favorites! (p12). This edition really was so much fun for us to make and we are so happy to finally share it with you!

shADES of Spring/ Summer 2017 Blue Color Trends

Just as New York Fashion week came to its end, the Pantone Color Institute was at the ready to declare those top 10 spring 2017 colours that are to lead the pack throughout the whole spring/ summer season. So what does shade do? We do the shopping for you and bring you the top outfit picks surrounding them trendy colours. According to Pantone’s Spring 2017 Fashion Color Report, the upcoming spring is likely to see all the colors of nature actualized on gar ments, bringing a mixture of vitality and relaxation (just what we all need!)

As was expected, blue was once more playing first fiddle bringing about whole 3 shades:The refreshing aqua Island Paradise, The classic denim-like Niagara and more intense Lapis Blue. Need something to mitigate that whole intense vibrancy? The spring/ summer 2017 color trends also dish out more neutral and peaceful shades of Pale Dogwood and Hazelnut. Here are our

Don’t really feel like bidding adieu to Airy Blue? Replace it with a new addition to the blue family. Island Paradise, the shade of refreshing aqua, stands on the 5th position on the list of the summer 2017 color trends with its power to call to mind some tropical settings. This refreshing blue shade with some green undertones is likely to fully open up on some exquisite fabrics to create the illusion of aqua. 10

The first place of the spring 2017 color trends goes to Niagara, a relaxing and soft blue shade, dubbed as medium-grade denim by the Pantone experts. “I love using blue to introduced me to from create mermaid blogging showing me other girls that were on Instagram inspired and encouraged me to makeup looks” give it a go as she knew

Sophie Richarson, the London based full-time beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger, is known for her signature mermaid hair, unique style and creative beauty tutorials. Her style is all about standing out – doing something new and different; qualities which are reflected in her work, both across her tutorials on YouTube as well as fashion and beauty shoots oh her blog. 1 Who would you say is your number one fashion inspiration? - Kylie Jenner - purely because of her ever changing hair colours! 2 What made you decide to start blogging? My best friend - she

14

I had a love for fashion.

3 What are some of your current fashion obsessions? - Sequins, glitter and anything that is somehow mermaid related! 4 What is one thing your readers would be surprised to hear? I hate the ocean! Literally petrified of the sea! 5 What do you do when you’re not blogging? Not that I have much time to myself, but when I do I like to chill out and watch crime dramas on TV, go out

and eat nice food with friends, see family. 6 What do you associate with the colour blue? Mermaids. And if I didn’t say that I think you’d all be shocked! 7 How do you embrace the colour blue in your fashion and makeup looks? By being a mermaid of course with my blue hair! I love using blue to create mermaid inspired makeup looks and also wearing blue items of clothing to match my blue hair. 8 How would you describe your style? I’d say I change my style up a lot, I kind of dress how I feel on that day. One day i might want to dress really trend driven and the next a 90s babe and then the next really dark and grungey. I’d say it’s constantly changing but I always try to get some sort of 90s/ mermaid element into my looks. 9 What is your favourite item in your wardrobe? Oh wow now this is tricky... It’s got to be this ASOS purple sequin jacket I’ve got. It’s amazing and it was perfect for the festival season! 10 Where do you get beauty and fashion inspiration from? Everywhere! I love looking at people on the streets, having an instagram stalk or even researching on Pinterest. 11 Why do you like using the mermaid style in your beauty and fashion looks? I sort of adopted it when the trend came about. My hair was already turquoise so it suited my look really well. 12 What five fashion and beauty tips do you have for our readers? 1. Don’t have a huge selection of lipsticks? why not use an eyeliner // 2. Wanting to stick glitter on your face? Use vaseline! // 3. Want glitter hair? Apply gel and then sprinkle the glitter on, and it comes off easily by just washing your hair // 4. Do you have a bodycon dress that’s a midi dress, but find it’s too long for you? Tuck up the bottom to shorten it and nobody will know! // 5. Can’t afford to buy new clothes? Play around with the ones in your wardrobe by styling a skirt over a dres and creating a new look. 13 Where is your favourite place to travel and why? America! I’ve only been a few times but I’d love to explore more there. I just love the culture and I’m definitely more of a commerical girl compared to a backpacker. 16

14 What three things do you wish someone had told you before you started blogging? It’s stressful, you will constantly be chasing for payment and people want you to create content for nothing. 15 What’s your favourite festival? SECRET GARDEN PARTY!!! It was the BEST festival i atteneded in 2016 16 What has been your favourite festival outfit and why? You’re making me choose?! i loved all of the ones I created! 17 Tell us 5 facts about yourself ? I own a french bulldog, I used to be petrified of dogs, I can’t eat tomatoes, I used to DJ and my hair is naturally dark brown. 18 How and where do you get your inspiration for your blog posts? These are sometimes inspired from my outfits or I use SEO keyword search engines to see what topics are relevant and being talked about. 19 Where do you like to shop? Ooo, I think my top three shops are online: missguided, prettylittlething and boohoo 20 Do you have a favourite clothing brand and why? Probably Dolls Kill - they stock lots of different brands, but they’re very cool, edgy and you can get some amazing statement items from them.

1.

2.

3.

1. First, take any medium warm toned eyeshadow and blend with a fluffy brush into the crease. I used the Morphe 35c palette and the Morphe E17 fluffy brush.

2. Next, taking a deep shimmery blue shade pack this all over the lid. I used a shade from the Makeup Revolution Eyes Like Angels Palette using an eco tool flat shader brush.

3. Then going back in with the brush used before, blend this colour with the crease colour.

30

Now using a dark almost black shade, focusing on the outer corner, deepen up the crease. I used a colour from the same Morphe 35C palette. 4.

5.

Using the medium brown and blue, repeat the same steps but on the lower lash line by applying the brown first and then the blue and blending this out together and connecting it with the upper outer corner shadows.

Next, line your water line with a black eyeliner. I chose the Zoeva black khol liner. 6.

31

7. Using a bright white glittery shade, highlight the inner corner. My choice was from the Eyes Like Angels palette.

7

8. Then taking a shade slightly darker than the white, highlight the brow bone with this. I again used a shade from the same palette. 8

9

32

9. Now taking some glitter glue or lash glue, dab this onto your lids in little sections and before it is dry, pack the glitter on top. I used duo lash glue and Helen-E cosmetics glitter.

13 11

10. Coat your lashes with mascara. I used Loreal Miss Manga Mascara.

12

11. Then taking lash glue and some lashes, apply these on top. I used KoKo lashes in the style Goddess

12. Now apply your favourite nude lipstick. Mine was NYX lip crème in Cairo.

water exercises Many of the same moves you do on land can be done in the cool comfort of the pool if you get a little creative. And, thanks to the natural resistance of the water, you’ll burn more calories!

35

8 Water Exercises to Do in the Pool That Aren’t Swimming Laps The water offers a great low-impact alternative for those who are injured or pregnant. It also protects the joints and helps prevent overuse injuries (hello, runners). And, frankly, it just feels good! So when the weather heats up, jump on in! The water’s fine with these eight water exercises.

1

Start your workout by jogging. Use the same good form you would on the road. To make it harder, zig-zag as you run in one direction and then run through the current on the return trip. Jog back and forth for five minutes.

5

2

Head to the deep end; see how long you can tread water. Aim for five minutes or take the lifeguard challenge and tread water for two minutes with your hands tucked in your armpits.

6

3 4 36

When you can take no more, head to the side of the pool for push-ups. Place palms flat on the pool deck, engage your abs and push down to raise your body out of the water. Keep elbows in tight, not splayed out to the sides and perform two sets of 15. Hold on for flutter kicks. Extend legs and stretch out flat across the surface of the water. Kick for 30 seconds at a moderate pace, speed up for the next 15 seconds and then kick as fast as you can for the last 15 seconds. Repeat the drill five times.

7 8

Stand tall in shoulder height water and grasp the edge of the pool for a barre-style workout. Extend one leg back, point toes and lift the leg up to work the glutes. Next, lift your leg out to the side and then cross it back in front of the standing leg to work those adductors. Alternate legs for three sets of fifteen. Grab a noodle (or rest your elbows on the side of the pool). Now, perform bicycles for two minutes. Hook your knees over the edge of the pool and lower yourself back onto the water. Cross hands in front of your chest, engage abs and sit up. If you are looking for a challenge, place your hands behind your head to create drag and lower completely down under the water and then sit up. Do one or two sets of 10. End with water savasana. Float motionless in the water with limbs splayed, eyes closed and surrender to the moment. Use a noodle or two if necessary.

About the Artist: Nicola Nash Originally from Manchester, Nicola spent her formative years in Guernsey. As a child she loved to draw ballerinas & horses (like most little girls). After studying art & design in Macclesfield she went on to study fashion design at Nottingham Trent University. After graduation she moved to London working as an assistant to celebrity stylist Chris Baker. Working on fashion shows for Michiko Koshino & for celebs such as Heather Graham, Tina Turner & The Spice Girls. Later becoming a stylist in her own right working with The Streets, Sienna Miller & Miss Dynamite. Working on advertising campaigns such as Nintendo, Reebok, Carling & Evian. During this time she was also working on the fashion desks of style & music magazines. In 2004 she moved to a small waterside village in Essex to have a family (two lively little boys). She now devotes most of her time to her artwork. She says “I draw all the time. Sometimes from reference, other times it’s just made up. I love art, fashion, music & colour - all of these are a big influence. I’m inspired by all of the cool & interesting stuff around me. I’m developing & learning every day. Talent is a pursued interest. You get out what you put in - so practice is key! I especially love figurative, fashion based illustration. My style is contemporary & injecting a bit of street art is always a winner. I like a mixture of different media & I always finish off with pen & ink, which really brings a piece to life. The pointillism technique is a big favourite of mine too!
