It started out to simple and innocent chemistry like apple and cinnamon.

My Photoshoot with Kamala This was my most unusual photoshoot and one of which I am most proud. Here is the story behind it. I had planned a new collection of luxurious coats and jackets for the winter – a new development for us. But who could I find to model it? One day returning home I passed a girl who had the perfect carriage, style and beauty. She was gone before I could speak to her. I then saw her two days later and realised she was the maid in a neighbouring house. For earlier shoots, I had asked friends, women with professional careers, artists, film producers. I don’t like using professional models. I like to photograph women who don’t expect to model – but suddenly feel empowered before a camera in clothes that they like and which unexpectedly transform them. But would Kamla – not her real name – respond to such a proposal? She came from an under-priveleged family, was married and had two children. She was in her late 20s. When I approached her, she was at first taken aback. But then she thought, became intrigued by the idea and then nervously accepted. She tried on the clothes and I could see they were for her like a dream. She posed hesitantly initially. She was apprehensive at having her hair styled and at our team adjusting the clothes and putting on her make up. Then she bloomed, her head lifted in pride, she moved as in a dance, she played to the camera. We showed her the results. She was a different person. She loved what she had become. It was a moment in her life that she will treasure. I will treasure it as well. She had a view of what the world could hold. I had a view of how a woman from a different back ground could be empowered.
