Remembering anti-slavery campaigners

On 30th July, the Church of England remembers William Wilberforce (d.1833), Olaudah Equiano (d.1797) and Thomas Clarkson (d.1846), antislavery campaigners. Wilberforce’s life is wellknown. Equiano puchased his freedom from slavery, lived in London and was part of an abolitionist group composed of Africans living in Britain. His powerful autobiography depicted the horrors of slavery. Clarkson continued to campaign for the abolition of slavery worldwide to the end of his life.
