The Cube
The intention behind the design began with the understanding of proportionality through hierarchy and defining inhabitable spaces. Using the fibonacci sequence as a measuring unit to develop a organizing grid led to the forming of a variety of continous and terminating slot conditions as well as “framing” hierarchical positive and negative spaces. Once a series of drawings were developed, the concept of phenominal transparency was used to formulate a three-dimensional object that potrayed hierarchy as well as a continous promenade throughout the building.
The grid was used as an organizing principle which allowed for a variety of proportions to be explored. The final drawing demonstrates the phenominal transparency that influenced the ending structure
Demonstrated to the right is the threedimensional object formulated from the drawings. The design was focused on the voids to separate the individual inhabitable spaces.

Precedents Case Study The Leca Swimming Pool by Alvaro Siza is a collection of elongated concrete walls guided by the irregular topography of the Portuguese beach. This study analyzes the persistancies demonstrated through the architectural boundaries of the building. Once identifying the guiding principles, architectural conditions are used to manipulate with intention and produce an“artifact” which is then used to carve and articulate a new object. The intention of this exercise was to explore the consistent atributes of previous buildings and understand how architects today execute these “persistances” in contemporary designs.

Project Proposal
Inspiration for this design proposal was developed directly from the surrounding urban conditions of the Menil Collection site, located in Houston, Texas. The original buildings demonstrate horizontality and the persistent ideology of preservation of work. Working closely with my group in developing a cohesive continuation of the architecture to merge seamlessly into the urban site through manipulation of an “artifact”. The “artifact” demonstrates a variety of persistances found in the site combined in a way to express and produce a clean simplistic facade with an intricate interior. These interior spaces purposefully fabricated to support a cafe space as well as study rooms.
The building was designed to accommodate a cafe along with several learning areas. It was specifically placed at the far upper right hand corner of the site plot of land and directed towards the Menil campus and street intersection to allow for the flow of traffic. The diagonal slot condition dividing the building in two promotes architectural promenade into the central courtyard.

The Room The goal of this exercise was to understand domesticity through image research, drawing and interpretation. Using images as reference to recreate in three-dimensional form allowed for consideration and attention to minor details. Taking a framed “room” from the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center and reinterpreting it as a inhabited living room by adding domestisized objects. Articulation of the furniture and close attention about how light responds to the varying structures within the space.

The Domestic Object
The unrolled drawing is inspired by Västra Kajen project done by architetects Tham & Videgård. This exercise focuses on the larger scaled concept of detail. Limited to three colors, selected from the inspiration image below, the exploration of color theroy was another factor to consider during the process. research about the materiality and patterns used in the design of the railings was important in recreating an accurate representation ofthe building complex.

The Neighbohood
Inspired by work from Jesús Valasso, the reinterpretation of the affordable housing project was produced by reimagining the urban context around the six standing units. The addition of a playground helps integrate the green space around the affordable housing units, and tie together the community activities. The triangular figures of the turf ground was drawn from the geometires of the roofs.
