SOOTHING Gaming should be a stress free expreience that engages all types of players. These keyword will be followed out through the rest of the project process. RELAXING Consumers want to enjoy the luxury of games while at the same time enjoying simple non-competive gaming. EVOLVING Having the design move and change would be a good approach the challenging question of how to deal with stress while play video games.

STORYBOARD This is a typical situation people find themselves in before playing video games. It’s pretty boring when everyone is on their phones & not paying attention to each other’s screens. What if there were a console that could engage all types of players?

INITIAL CONCEPTS The first twenty sketches allowed me to explore several potential aesthetic directions before refining. This was an important part of the process because it determined what direction I will move towards for my final model design.

EARLY | FINAL MOCKUPS


MOCKUPS | GROUP FEEDBACK This stage of the process is significant because it reveals what form will follow the system’s function as a game console and projector. Group feedback suggests incorporating liquid cooling systems and open ventilation to reduce overheating the unit.

CRITIQUE


LIQUID COOLING IDEA Seemed too scientific and dangrous to have in the home. These are the final three concepts.

PROJECTOR CONCEPT Incorporating a way to play video games when there isn’t a television. This is the final choice.

SPINNING CONSOLE This concept seems too robotic and intrusive to the environement. This would be considered.

FINAL THREE


FINAL DIRECTION Game consoles are only valuable when you have a screen to play them on. This system will include a projector to reduce the amount of cost of a monitor. The system will now have the capabilities of portability.

MAIN CONCEPT



CMF (COLORS MATERIALS & FINISHES) The design philosphy established is a minimalism approach with grey scale gradient. This is an aesthetic that would be a more focused direction during the finalization of the process.


CONCEPT REFINEMENT This part of the process determined the final design direction. Going from abstraction to a more simplified aesthetic was an intentional decision. It took multiple iterations to come to a satisfactory conclusion.
