NAME OF PROJECT: DISTRICT CENTRE LOCATION: DWARKA, DELHI CLIENT: DELHI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

AIM TO CREATE SPACE WHICH CAN FORM NODE FOR HOLDING AND EXPERIENCING COMMERCIAL AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES.

A District Centre Is A Composite Centre Providing All Facilities Required By The Residents Of That Particular Area. It Is The Climax For The Multi-Nodal Activities Of The Community.

IT IS ACTUALLY A HYBRID BETWEEN A COMMERCIAL CENTRE AND A SHOPPING CENTRE.

My DISTRICT CENTRE Will Majorly Be A Shopping Centre Serving The Community With Shops, (Formal And Informal), Plus Commercial Offices And Public Spaces.

AS A DISTRICT CENTRE IT REQUIRES TO INCORPORATE THE DEMANDS OF THE PRESENT DEMOGRAPHY.

The District Centers Are Meant To Be Conceived As Major Shopping Centres, While Serving The Community With A Reasonable Variety Of Other Services And Facilities Like Restaurants, Multiplexes, Etc. Increasing Concentration Of Population In The Cities And Decreasing Land Space Pushed For A Solution Which Meant Bringing Them Together. It Is In A Way A Hybrid Between A Convention Centre Or Cultural Hub And Commercial Centers At A Much Reduced Scale.

LOCATION Dwarka Is A Sub City, Located In The South West Delhi District Of The National Capital Territory Of Delhi. It Is Named After The Legendary Dwarka Kingdom. It Is A Short Distance Away From Gurgaon Which Is A Major Hub For Large Corporations In The Country And About 10 Kms Away From Indira Gandhi International Airport. With The Opening Up Of The Airport Express Line, Which Has Been Built And Being Managed By Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, The Travel Time From The Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station To Airport Is Expected To Be About 3 Minutes.

ARCHITECTURAL CHALLENGES To explore the symbiotic character of COMMERCE . Explore the inter-relationships of the spaces and the challenges of disparities cause by design which restrict spaces to particular segment of public .  To evolve a contemporary model of conventional Indian market.  The project would try to explore the possible integration of the functions which usually exist at larger distances

• LOCATION- SOUTH DELHI • TYPE : MIXED USE COMMERCIAL • PLOT AREA- 40 ACRE • BUILT UP AREA4,66,971 SQ. MT. • GROUND COVERAGE 50,051 SQ. MT.

2 Level Circulation Ensures Segregation Between Vehicular And Pedestrian Movement. Pedestrian Movement Becomes Circuitous At Places.  Planning Of Buildings Around Service Courts. Introvert Design Scheme.  Vehicular Circulation Around The Periphery. Architectural Controls Regulate The Facades Of All Buildings.

INFERENCES Retail along the pedestrian movement spine, encouraging use of plaza.(planning) Staggered built form in plan and elevation, play of light and shadow.(aesthetically and climatically responsive) Segregated pedestrians and parking in levels.(pedestrian v/s vehicular) Sequence of open spaces intended to allow people to congregate. Shops subservient to offices, fails to attract local shoppers. •A strong visual connection with other plaza and areas which will guide the movement. •A closed interrelation of open, semi open and closed spaced to house various formal and informal activities.

CASE STUDY INFERENCES CONSIDERATION • Prominence of public spaces with perfect blending with commercial activities so as to add cultural essence in commercial complex. • A close interrelation of spaces different activities, plazas, courtyard, pedestrian vehicular flow and their composition in built mass. • A well composed and optimized existence of different function to avoid over prominence of one, in mixed use development.

SITE CONTEXT AND CONSIDERATIONS • Preferred entry for hub, office and hotel. • Central views and vistas from various focal or nodal point points. • Major three directions for public plaza entrance.

The vehicular movement across the site away from the pedestrian movement avoiding the fuss and confusion. Public entry and Staff entry separate.
