The Feast of Christ the King is a significant event in the Catholic Church's liturgical calendar, and the Diocese's celebrations on the 26th November were a grand affair. The religious procession was a beautiful sight to behold, with people of all ages walking together in reverence. It was heartening to see the parishes come together to celebrate this holy day. The Eucharistic Celebration was the highlight of the day, and it was heartening to see the participation of nearly all the parishes. The presence of Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira and several priests as concelebrants added to the solemnity of the occasion. The choir's melodious hymns made the Eucharist an uplifting experience for all present. The unveiling of the logo for the Ordinary Jubilee 2025 marked the beginning of the preparations for this significant event. The theme, "Pilgrims of Hope," inspires us to walk together in faith and hope, and it was a fitting way to end the celebrations. The Feast of Christ the King was a beautiful reminder of our faith, and it was heartening to see that so many people had come together to celebrate it. The tasty agape at the end of the celebrations was the perfect way to end the day, and it left everyone feeling nourished, both in body and spirit.

Diocese Hosts Enchanting Carols Competition to Celebrate Christmas Spirit

In a festive celebration heralding the Christmas season, the portals of St. Mary’s Garrison Church resonated with melodious rhythms during a Carols Competition organized by the Diocese on the 17th of December. The event featured 13 choirs from schools and churches, showcasing their musical prowess and creating an atmosphere of festive cheer. The competition aimed to evoke the spirit of Christmas and pay tribute to the late Fr. Raphael Jeykumar.
The competition was judged by a panel of esteemed judges, including Mrs. Jasmeet Kaur, Mr. Vishal Sadhotra, and Mr. Dennis Khokhar. Bishop Ivan presented awards to the winning schools and churches, with Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani, Jammu emerging as the top winner, followed by Indian National Evangelical Church, Jammu, and St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Resham Ghar, Jammu claiming second and third
In his welcome address, Fr. Suhail Joseph emphasized the importance of carols in heralding the news of Jesus's birth, while Fr. Sebastian Velankanni paid tribute to the late Fr. Raphael Jeykumar, in whose memory the event is held annually. Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira delivered a powerful message describing Jesus as the prince of peace and highlighted the purpose of his birth. He declared Christmas to be a powerful symbol of God’s love, offering a fervent prayer for the wellbeing of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh, invoking peace and joy in the region.
Fr. Peter Paul extended gratitude to all participating teams and event sponsors. The enthralling competition, organized by the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar, was made possible under the able leadership of Fr. S Joseph, Principal of St. Peter's School, B.C Road, Jammu, who served as the Chief Organizer. The event concluded with the sharing of season’s greetings, creating an atmosphere of heightened jubilation as Christmas Day approached.

Nativity Play Staged at Abhinav Theatre In a heartwarming collaboration among the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar, and the All J&K Christian Sabha, the Christmas Nativity Play, titled "Masiha Ki Khoj," unfolded with grace at Abhinav Theatre on 21st December. The Honourable Lt. Governor Sh. Manoj Sinha graced the event as the Chief Guest and delivered a memorable speech that emphasized unity and joy during the festive season. Rt. Rev. Bishop Ivan Pereira shared a Christmas message of love and compassion. The presence of Fathers, Sisters, Pastors, dignitaries and members of the civil society added a sacred dimension to the celebration, and their blessings resonated throughout the gathering. Ashu Peter Mattoo, President of the All J&K Christian Sabha acknowledged the support of various persons, including Padma Shri S.P. Verma, President of Gandhi Global Family, and other respected figures who contributed to the success of the event.

CHARTING PATHS. CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE DJSES Symposium Illuminates the Future of Education The Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society (DJSES) hosted a symposium titled "Shaping the Future: Challenges and Insights for Tomorrow" at the prestigious Government Convention Centre in Jammu on the 9th December. The event, curated by Fr. Shaiju Chacko, Chairman of the Diocesan Education Board, brought together educationists, parents, students, and distinguished guests for an illuminating discussion on the future of education.
The Society honoured 16 employees on completion of 25 years of service with the society. Special awards were given to students who achieved academic excellence in the Class XII and X Boards of the 2022-23 session.

TJ, the senior-most priest in the diocese, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 50 years of priesthood, service, and wisdom. Mr. Taj Maqsood was also recognized for his five decades of dedicated service at Burn Hall School, Srinagar. 05

Empowering Families: In a series of impactful initiatives, the Family and Laity Commission of the Diocese has been actively engaged in fostering the spiritual growth and well-being of the community

With a total of 316 participants over two days, the Faith Formation Event for Teens focused on faith and worship through engaging activities and music. Bro. Arthur and team from Goa animated the event, while Fr. Soosai Rajan facilitated it, providing valuable insights and helping teens deepen their understanding of their faith.
In collaboration with the Missionary Families of Christ (MFC), a Family Evangelization Programme was conducted, benefiting 7 couples and 10 lay leaders. The program aimed at strengthening family bonds and spiritual connections.
The Commission organised a one-day Family Faith Formation Seminar, in collaboration with MFC, at Nagrota Parish, with 25 participants gaining valuable insights.

Family Formation Event at Nagrota: A comprehensive Family Formation Event, in collaboration with MFC, took place at Nagrota Parish. The event involved 25 participants, featuring input sessions, house visits, and counseling sessions animated by resource persons Br. Elvis and Br. George.
Meeting, Election, and Training: The commission conducted a meeting and election, appointing Mr. Rinku Thomas as the secretary. A total of 61 lay leaders participated, and 15 members volunteered to attend training programs, aiming to further empower lay leaders in their local parishes.

Empowering Women: Highlights of the Women's Commission Activities in the Diocese The Women's Commission in the Diocese has been actively engaged in empowering women through a series of impactful initiatives. These endeavors, ranging from spiritual empowerment for widows to celebrating special days dedicated to women and elderly, have left a positive impact on women and the larger community.

The commission organized a spiritual empowerment program for 84 widows, focusing on messages from Bishop Ivan Pereira, the participation of widows in the church, confession, adoration, and healing prayers. The program aimed at providing comfort and encouragement to the participants.
Representatives from the diocese attended the National Conference held at Navinta, Lucknow, providing an enriching and empowering experience.
The Catholic Church marked International Women's Day with a rally, Eucharist, cultural events, and an inspiring message from Rt. Rev. Bishop Ivan Pereira. The celebrations aimed at raising awareness on gender equality, unity, and women's active participation at home and in the parish.
Parish Visits
Girl Child Day September 8, the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, was celebrated as Girl Child Day in the diocese. Special liturgy and competitions were conducted in all parishes, emphasizing the value of a girl's life. Winners received prizes from both the parish and the diocese.

The Diocesan team visited several parishes, including Gandhinagar, Prem Nagar, New Plot, Trikuttanagar, Samba, R S Pura, Bishna, Hiranagar, and Bakshinagar. These visits involved offering training and organizing commission activities with the support of parish priests.

Monica Day Celebration Monica Day was celebrated across all parishes to honor mothers for their silent contributions to families and societies. The day included special liturgy, games, and competitions for women, with prizes awarded to the winners.

EMPOWERING RURAL COMMUNITIES: CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICE SOCIETY'S IMPACTFUL INITIATIVES TAKE CENTER STAGE CSSS is leading a series of impactful initiatives aimed at empowering communities and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
Boost to Mushroom Cultivation: Small-scale farmers in R.S. Pura and Bishnah received 2000 customized mushroom bags for free as part of an initiative to increase their income. Prior to this, farmers underwent a one-month training program on mushroom cultivation, covering important aspects such as composting, spawning, turning, casing, crop maintenance, and harvesting. The program aimed to provide participating families a significant source of profit, with each mushroom bag expected to yield 2 to 3 kgs. Digital Awareness for SHG Members: Awareness programs for Self Help Group members in Bishnah and Akalpur covered digital literacy and payment platforms, leading to 525 women and 48 groups having Google accounts for essential payments. Skilling on Agri and Non-Agri Enterprises: To help SHG members diversify their income, the society provided training in various income-generating skills such as food processing, jute bag making, and beekeeping. This approach aims to create sustainable income sources and empower members to overcome economic uncertainties. Livestock Management Training: Recognizing the significance of cattle in rural agriculture, the society organized training and participatory sessions in R.S. Pura on efficient livestock management. This included guidance on feeding patterns, health maintenance, and veterinary checkup camps. Empowering farmers with the knowledge to maximize the potential of their cattle ensures a more successful and sustainable agriculture practice.

CSSS Launches Smart Skill Development Centre
Smart Skill Development Centre (SSDC), a part of the "Augmentation of Livelihood and Entrepreneurship training through Smart Skill Development Centre in 24 villages of Jammu District" project, offers free short-term skill training courses and computer education for farmers and village students. The centre also provides social media awareness, email communication, and smart phone usage training, as well as career counselling for unemployed individuals. In addition to training, the SSDC conducts awareness sessions about Government Schemes and Policies, and features interactive video lectures by experts for farmers and students. The SSDC aims to positively impact the socioeconomic status of villagers, particularly women and youth. 09
CSSS Introduces Migrant Programs The Catholic Social Service Society, with support from Manos Unidas, is addressing the challenges faced by migrants through a series of initiatives. A baseline survey highlighted their health, education, livelihood, and vulnerability, guiding informed decision-making. Programs include health volunteer training, digital literacy for youth, and remedial centers for migrant children, addressing language barriers and learning gaps. These initiatives aim to empower and integrate migrants, showcasing CSSS's commitment to a more inclusive society.
Promotion of Backyard Poultry The society distributed healthy chicks and provided training on poultry unit development and maintenance to 20 vulnerable families in the Akalpur unit. Each family now manages over 50 chicks, resulting in increased household income and improved nutritional standards.

Soli Deo Gloria: Fatima Convent High School, Bishnah Marks Ruby Jubilee in Style Fatima Convent High School celebrated its Ruby Jubilee with great pride and joy. The event was an opportunity to reflect on the institution's four decades of excellence in education and a vibrant tapestry of celebration and gratitude. The school welcomed renowned dignitaries such as Shri. Suraj Singh Rathore, CEO of Jammu, as the Chief Guest, and Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira as the Guest of Honour. Rev. Fr. Varkey TJ, the school's first Principal, was also in attendance as the Special Guest, joining an enthusiastic gathering of priests, sisters, parents, and students Themed "Soli Deo Gloria" (Glory to God alone), the program was a spectacle of vibrant performances and cultural presentations, showcasing the diverse talents of students.

The parishioners engaged in charitable endeavors throughout the Jubilee year to give back to the community. The event also featured the felicitation of former and pioneer missionaries and fostered a sense of unity and community spirit. The Ruby Jubilee celebration highlighted the church's enduring faith, community service, and spiritual growth since its establishment in 1983.
Conference of Religious India (CRI) gets new Leadership Team The CRI Members held a meeting on November 13, 2023, where they reconstituted the leadership team in the diocese and elected Fr. Rony MST as President, Sr. Anu Jose SABS as Vice-President, Sr. Sheetal SND as Secretary, Sr. Annjoe CMC as Joint Secretary, and Fr. Vijay SFX as Treasurer.

Carmel’s Annual Sports Day Radiates Unity and Excellence Carmel Convent School in Jammu celebrated its Annual Sports Day on the 7th and 8th of November, captivating participants and attendees alike under the theme "One Earth. One Family. One Future." The presence of distinguished guests, including Shri Ramesh Kumar IAS, Dr. Rashmi Singh IAS, Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira and Fr. Shaiju Chacko elevated the festivities, emphasizing the school's commitment to values of unity and global harmony. Students showcased their immense talent and dedication through seamless performances, blending dance, drill, and music. The three-hour extravaganza radiated joy, excitement, and camaraderie, a testament to the students' hard work and perseverance under the meticulous planning of Principal Sr. Maria Swati and the dedicated team of teachers.
Sacred Heart Billawar Celebrates "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat" Sacred Heart Convent High School (SHCHS) in Phinter, Billawar, celebrated its annual day on November 27, 2023, under the theme "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat" (One India, Great India). The chief guest, Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira, bishop of Jammu-Srinagar, and the guest of honour, Mr. Chamanlal Charak, Deputy CEO, delivered inspirational speeches that resonated with the audience and students. The program meticulously showcased the talents of the students through various performances and presentations.

The track events, featuring a variety of challenging races and activities, added a competitive and thrilling dimension to the celebration. A special race involving parents contributed a personal touch, creating cherished memories for all involved. Cultural highlights, including captivating band performances and impressive taekwondo presentations, added finesse to the event, leaving the audience awestruck. Inter-school Drama Fest at St. Joseph’s School, Baramulla It was showtime at St. Joseph's Higher School, where the stage was set for an Inter-school Drama Competition that would leave the audience spellbound. Six schools went head-to-head in the state-of-the-art auditorium, under the theme "Igniting Emotions on Stage". The contestants - BurnHall School Srinagar, Mallinson School Srinagar, SRM Welkin Sopore, DPS Srinagar, Tyndale Biscoe School Srinagar and St Joseph's School Baramulla brought their A-game, leaving judges and spectators alike in awe with their performances. The student artists displayed their raw and unmatched talent, leaving the festival's esteemed guests - Chief Guest Mr Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon, Secretary/Special Mobile Magistrate Baramulla; Guest of Honour, Radio Jockey Vijdhan; celebrated Writer Director, Mr Rashid Barqi; expert in Graphic designing and visualization, Naushad Gayoor; and Dr Rizwan Khalid Nasqhbandi - impressed. It was a tight contest, but St. Joseph's School Baramulla emerged as the winners, bagging the first position with their outstanding performance!

Unity in Mission: Mission Sunday Celebrated with Zest
Mission Sunday happens once a year and is a reminder to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to all corners of the world. This year's theme, "Here I am, send me," was all about being active in sharing the Gospel message.
In Srinagar, the participation of the nearby Christian community from the CNI Church is a perfect example of interfaith dialogue and cooperation, which helps us work towards a more peaceful and just society.
The Catholic Church in Jammu & Kashmir joined with the Universal Church to celebrate Mission Sunday in style! From special liturgy to fundraising events, the parishes came together to make this a truly memorable occasion.
As we reflect on the meaning of Mission Sunday, let's be inspired by the early Christians who fearlessly proclaimed the Gospel message despite persecution. May we too have the courage and zeal to share the love of Christ with those around us.
Akhnoor Celebrates Patron’s Feast The parishioners of Christ the King Church in Akhnoor celebrated the feast of Christ the King on 19th November with great enthusiasm and devotion. The solemn Mass was presided over by Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira and concelebrated by four other fathers. During the event, 28 children received their first Holy Communion. The main celebrant emphasized the importance of following Christ's example of love, mercy, and compassion, and communal journeying. The parish choir provided a beautiful accompaniment to the liturgy, and the celebration concluded with a heartfelt agape.

Holy Archangels Church, Bari Brahmana celebrated the feast of the Parish on 5th November. Rt. Rev. Ivan Pereira presided over the Eucharistic Celebration during which he administered the Sacrament of Holy Communion and Confirmation to 32 children. Adivasi Milan Samaroh: A Celebration of Unity and Culture: The Commission for Tribals hosted the vibrant Adivasi Milan Samaroh on October 22, 2023 at St. Paul’s Convent School, Gangyal. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Fr. Santhosh Athikal as the chief guest and Fr. Varkey as the guest of honour. The day unfolded with a warm Adivasi Cultural welcoming dance, welcoming priests, the religious the faithful of the community. The highlight of the day was the Holy Eucharistic Sacrifice, celebrated solemnly, fostering a sense of God's love and unity among the participants. Following the Mass, a cultural program filled with joy and happiness captivated everyone in attendance.
Sr. Sheetal provided insights into the history of Chotanagpur and highlighted the significance of the Karma feast. Fr. Santhosh addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and thoughtfulness, further enhancing the celebratory spirit. The day concluded with a fellowship meal for all attendees, and a heartwarming thanksgiving song marked the end of the program. Fr. Ranjit Kujur, the president of the Adivasi Commission, expressed gratitude in the closing words of thanks.
Kristu Jyoti Church Celebrates Milestone with Blessing of New Gate and Grotto Kristu Jyoti Church in Samba celebrated a significant milestone with the blessing of their new gate, which also serves as a grotto. The community's long-held dream of increasing the Church's visibility in the area has been achieved, as it is now prominently visible to the public, serving as a testament to the Christian presence in the region. The new additions, including the grotto, are expected to promote spiritual growth in the community. Bishop Ivan Pereira presided over the blessing of the gate and statues, with a large number of faithful in attendance. During the subsequent Eucharist, the Bishop administered the sacrament of Baptism to 25 individuals, welcoming them to full membership in the Church. Fr. Robin Cerejo led the tireless efforts to make this day a reality, with the help of the Sisters, Catechists, and members of the parish.

Tata ClassEdge hosts Principal Leadership Program in Jammu Tata ClassEdge successfully concluded the 4th edition of its Principal Leadership Program (PLP) in Jammu on Saturday, December 16th. The theme for PLP IV, 'Leading for Educational Excellence and Future Focus', aimed to equip educational leaders with the skills to think about leadership, future competencies of students, long-term growth vision for their schools, strategic planning, and integrating emerging technology into education. The program consisted of a series of engaging and informative sessions facilitated by distinguished speakers, including experienced faculty, seasoned educators, researchers, and industry experts, who shared their valuable perspectives. The session was attended by 50 educational leaders, with nearly 30 from the Diocese.
Inter-school Athletic Meet in Jammu The inter-school athletic meet on 18th November at St. Peter’s Hr. Sec. School, Karan Bagh was a huge success, thanks to the efforts of Fr. Santan Dias, Fr. Mathew Thomas, the staff at Karan Bagh and the participation of the talented students. The event had the participation on nearly 630 students from 18 schools under the Society. The event was a great opportunity for the students to showcase their skills and compete with their peers from other schools. It was heartening to see the level of sportsmanship and discipline displayed by the students during the competition. The winners of the gold, silver, and bronze medals deserved their accolades and the admiration of their peers. The event was a reminder of the importance of sports and physical activity in the development of young people. The memories of the event will last a long time and we hope that the students will continue to pursue their athletic dreams with the same enthusiasm and passion. Northern Regional Youth Convention in Delhi The 7th Northern Regional Youth Convention was held from 15th -17th September 2023 at Rosary Sr. Sec. School, Delhi, organized by the Northern Region Youth Commission of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement. Participants from four dioceses actively participated in the event with the theme "Revival." The convention had several activities, workshops, and sessions that prioritized spiritual growth, personal development, mental health, leadership skills, community engagement, and career building. Rev. Fr. Maria Antony took oath as a Northern Regional Youth Director, and eight outstanding youths were honored for their exceptional faith, service, and leadership.
National Youth Conference in Guwahati From October 23rd to 27th, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) organized the 5th National Youth Conference in Guwahati. The primary focus of the conference was to train youth leaders across India to edify the youth in their dioceses, so the learnings from the conference could spread to other youth as well. Participants engaged in activities like group discussions, workshops, cultural evenings, and animations to better understand and connect with the young people and their cultures. Eucharist celebrations created a sense of oneness and solidarity in Christ among attendees. The conference aimed to bring people together to become the Church that God calls us to be in this critical turning point in the history of mankind.

St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre Marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities
St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre, a unit of Catholic Social Service Society, in collaboration with Liliane Foundation and Jan Vikas Samiti organised a touching event on the 2nd December to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The ceremony, held at St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre, Mandal, featured soulful prayers, cultural performances by talented students, and valuable insights from distinguished guests. Chief Guest Ms. Kirandeep Kour, BDO Officer, Mandal, along with Guest of Honour Fr. Kuriakose and Special Guest Inspector Rakesh Kumar (J&K Police, Jammu), graced the occasion.
The program aimed to promote inclusivity, advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities, and deepen understanding of the challenges they face. Ms. Kirandeep Kour emphasized the importance of open discussions, challenging the common tendency among parents to avoid conversations about special children. The event concluded with heartfelt thanks from Fr. Justin Thiraviam, Director of CSSS, and the distribution of thoughtful gifts to the children. The guests also spent quality time interacting with the children, capturing heartwarming moments.
