preface. Acording to the GLS Institute of Design curriculum all students of the final year are required to complete the Graduation Project, which is a full scale project in the Industry. Graduation Project is of four month duration where the students has to undertake clients project and are expected to generate a professional output with market application and implementation capabilities. Students also can opt for a self-sponsored project.

This helps to understand a role of a designer, which is not only restricted to design but also co-ordinating with various department together to get best out of it. It also helps the students to recognize their strengths and weaknesses.

My graduation project in Jaipur, India was sponsored by “Studio KASSA.” The project with the company lasted for a period of four months from December to March 2020.

Practicing in the industry not only reflects a particular culture but also aims to develop and innovate. This project is the first step into the professional world and it gives the students an idea of how industry functions in the real situation. This project exposes the student to a real time scenario of an industry and helps to understand the constraints and limitation of the industry. It makes them capable to work under those situations with maximum efficiency and to generate the outputs according to the industry requirements.

Institute.

Under GLS University, Ahmedabad, GLS Institute of Design is a leading college offering design courses relating to various creative areas. The Design Institute offers 4-year Bachelor of Design Program and 5-year Integrated Masters of Design Program with specialization in the areas of fashion design, communication, Environment Design and Industrial Design.

20

The key research approach of our institute is “learning by doing” Through theory has attached practical activity that helps students to consider the concept’s implications in the real world. The learning process is accompanied by evaluation, practice and application of the same.

Discipline.

With a 360-degree design approach, Industrial Design helps to establish core competencies for a globalized presence and acceptance in the design and manufacturing. Industrial Design is the professional practice of designing everyday products, devices, objects and services that millions of people around the world use. Industrial designers usually focus on a product’s physical appearance, functionality,

and manufacturability, though they also engage in much more during a production process. Industrial design can be related directly to the industrial revolution and the transition from small-scale crafts to mass-produced goods for the consumer class. Early industrial designers often find themselves in a role dealing solely with aesthetics and aesthetics, straddling the line between artist and engineer.

21

Studio.

KASSA, meaning ‘House of two,’ was founded by two separate contemporary artists after Aarushi’s Masters in Visual Communications at MICA (Mudra Institute of Communication,Ahmedabad) and Arpan’s Masters in Product Design at the University of Arts London. After presenting solo shows at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and London Art Galleries and working closely with the advertising world respectively, they finally felt a gap between Art and Design was discovered at home.

22

They started to work on a product line of items that they can bring themselves (either beauty products or furniture etc.) cleverly calling it Kassa. Over many years now Kassa was respected and revered. Being passionate artists and designers these two are not only creating but indulging in everything they do. Which makes them have an eye for detail and passion for intricate work, finish and quality and how materials are viewed and explored.

KASSA is strongly opposed to synthetic materials, all other synthetic materials are pushing us into sure destruction, and without synthetics, the world will be doing much better. Their efforts are therefore always focused on the use of natural materials to show connect with environment. wherever possible, and this is reflected in all aspects of their design. KASSA believes in upcycling as they use wast leather and try to use every small piece of leather for

designing their products. They never miss a chance to highlight the connection to the nature and also to promote that they use Eco-friendly waterproof paper in their design of products.

leather

About

37

About.

Nowadays, leather is used in a multitude of products, ranging from key chains to large pieces of furniture, and the leather industry is growing rapidly because of the market’s constant, urgent need for material. Leather is a highly desirable material, which is available in great abundance, since it is a derivative of the ever flourishing meat industry. leather is a natural material, it’s often less irritating than other materials. Leather dog collars are made of natural materials, so they’re more earth-friendly.

38

They’re also more comfortable for most canines, and they’re the best choice for a dog with super sensitive skin. The leather qualities that make it especially good for products are that it is smooth, sturdy and it is very comfortable as it is a natural material that breathes. It is a conspicuous possession of luxury and a good quality piece of leather product can improve with age and last a lifetime. Another good thing about Leather is that it can be made to absorb water, resist water or be completely waterproof.

Leather is a durable and flexible material created by tanning animal rawhide and skins. It can be produced at manufacturing scales ranging from artisan to modern industrial scale. It is produced in a wide variety of types and styles and decorated by a wide range of techniques. The earliest record of leather artifacts are to 2200 BC.

Leather, animal skins and hides have been treated with chemicals to preserve them and make them suitable for various uses. Today, most leather is made of cattle hides, which constitute about 65% of all leather produced. Leather produces some environmental impact, most notably due to carbon footprint of cattle rearing, use of chemicals in the tanning process and air pollution due to the transformation process.

39

Dyeing. There are different techniques for dyeing genuine leather which were born as artisanal techniques to be subsequently industrialized by tanneries. In industrial processes, the dyeing phase of leather is part of the socalled re-tanning operations.

1

There are three main leather dyeing techniques: 1. Leather Dip Dyeing 2. Leather Brush/Sponge Dyeing 3. Leather Spray Dyeing

2

3 40

Manufacturing process. 1. Pre tanning operations Soaking – When the leather arrives at the tannery it may be soaked to extrude salts used in preserving leather. This is done in revolving drums which can hold up to 200 hides. Liming – Hair and epidermis are removed and a solution of lime (calcium hydroxide) and sodium sulfide is applied to soften and enhance the hide for softness and flexibility needed for upholstery leather. Splitting – The hide is split into layers. The top, or grain, layer will produce a fine, smooth grain leather. The bottom is used for suede or split leather for other uses.

2. Tanning Chrome tanning: chromium salts are added after pickling. The process of chromium tanning is based on the cross-linkage of chromium ions with free carboxyl groups in the collagen. It makes the hide resistant to bacteria and high temperature. The product of this stage is called “ wet blue leather ”. Vegetable tanning: The transformation from raw hides into a material that will last a long time is a process that happens slowly in wooden drums while respecting the Environment. It is an astonishing process based on the use of natural tannins, on modern technologies and machinery.

41

3. Dressing Dressing the hides involves the following process, Shaving, Hides are given a uniform thickness. second, Dyeing, Dyes are added to color leather. Re-tanning, Additional tanning substances are sometimes added to modify the physical characteristics of the leather to suit its final use. Setting, A process which mechanically removes creases and excess water. Drying, The hides are stretched dried on large frames or vacuum dried and at last Trimming, The rough and ragged edges are removed.

4. Finishing The purposes of finishing are, To minimize the appearance of grain blemishes without losing the natural beauty of the leather product, give the required degree of gloss, ensure the leather is soft, malleable and moldable, give a more protective surface, provide a surface that can be easily cleaned and to give special effect such as an antique look. The finishing process uses a combination of surface coating techniques such as padding, spraying or roller coating. Then there are mechanical processes such as buffing, staking and embossing.

42

Types. 1.FULL-GRAIN LEATHER Leather which has not undergone sanding, buffing or any other process.

2.TOP-GRAIN LEATHER The second best type of leather, quality wise, is top-grain leather. It is almost the same as full-grain leather, but with the top few millimeters sanded or buffed off.

43

3.CORRECTED-GRAIN LEATHER When a hide doesn’t fit the standards to be turned into full or top-grain leather, it is generally used to producecorrected-grain leather.

4.SPLITLEATHER Split leather is made of the layers of hide that are left over, during the production of full or top-grain leather. These layers can be divided into two splits, the middle split and the flesh split.

44

5.BONDED LEATHER it is made of scrap hide pieces which are byproducts of real leather production. These pieces are shredded and ground into even smaller pieces, which are then laid out flat and stuck to each other with a thick layer of polyurethane (plastic). Bonded leather contains (at least) about 17% of actual leather.

6.BICAST LEATHER Bicast leather is made of layers of split hide which are completely sealed and coated with polyurethane, and then embossed. It is essentially more plastic than leather.

64

Packaging.

Combination of packaging. One or more inner packages secured by an outer package (such as a rigid corrugated sheet or metal box) are now the most widely used types of packages for a combination of accessories. At its most basic level, the packaging of the product is intended to protect the product inside. Packaging must keep the product safe during shipment between the manufacturing facility

and the retailer and must prevent damage while the product is on the shelf. This trend of packaging is all about trust and honesty. In today’s world, where consumers have so much access to information, they can better educate themselves about product choices and information with the help of packaging .

65

Types of accessories. 1. dog tags Dog tags’ primary use is for the identification of casualties; as such, they have information about the personnel written on them, and convey essential basic information such as name of dog, name and number of pet owner.

2. dog cloths Functional dog clothing is designed to protect against the weather . Dog clothes that are strictly for fun can be used as holiday costumes and special events such as Halloween or wedding parties. Dog coats are most often used for rain and cold protection, and to provide extra warmth.

66

3.dog collars A dog collar is a piece of material that’s placed around a dog’s neck. A collar may be used to curb, identify, fashion, or protect. Dog collars are also labeled with identification tags and medical details. Collars are also used with leash to restrain a dog.

4. dog backpacks A dog backpack can help to give your pup a reason. When a dog is wearing their bag, they know they ‘re helping in a meaningful way, and they’ll usually act better and feel happier. Whether you have a small dog or an elderly parent, try putting on an empty bag. They’ll probably still feel as though they help out.

67

Types

5. bandanna Bandannas is piece of cloth to help both dog and human for wellbeing. A dog bandanna is more likely to trap loose fur which is helpful if you have someone with dog hair allergies. Instead a bandanna is used to protect some dogs from sunburn (especially dogs with short or very light hair).

6. harness A harness disperses pressure over his body’s larger area, reducing pressure on his neck and back. Harnesses deter pulling. He’s always going forward while your dog is wearing a collar and pulling on the leash, which makes him think the pulling is effective.

68

7. treat pouch Treat pouch is very helpful to have treats close by and ready to dispense, particularly if you’re training a feisty puppy or walking a hound of your own mind! A compact treat pouch to hold the pet treats healthy and ready to dole out is very handy as a reward for good behavior.

8. dog leash Practically all dog leashes have the same basic function, keeping your dog safe and under control when out in public and helping you handle your dog during dog training.

69

Types

9. dog toys Many issues with behavior in dogs are the result of boredom or excess energy. Toys offer relaxation and enjoyment for the emotional and physical. Bringing the energy of your dog into play with toys will avoid or help solve issues such as digging and chewing on furniture, shoes.

10. dog bed Dog bed can be used for daytime napping, and nighttime sleeping. In contrast to the floor, a bed keeps your dog warm, supports arthritic joints and prevents calluses. And unlike a sofa or a human bed, dog beds are places for pups to have all to themselves.

70

11. dog bowl Bowls can help reduce your pet’s likelihood of gulping down their meals and so they’re meant to alleviate the problems of fast eating. Dog bowl is typically used to serve the pet dog’s food.

12. dog bag Pet carriers in the backpack are ideal for smaller pets while walking. These are also ideal for biking, shopping, road trips or veterinary appointments. We feature a cozy, well ventilated pet compartment for safe and enjoyable travel.

71

Making process.

1. Paper mock-up

2. Felt mock-up

These are the five basic steps of any leather product made by hand at Studio KASSA. These are, as mentioned, the three early stages of the process that begin with paper mocking.

72

3. Pattern

Before we start working on the final prototype, there are chances of several changes as per product requirement between these stages.

4. Final Prototype

These two are final stages in which the final version and finished product are included. The final prototype includes the detailed part such as stitches, buckles, buttons and other elements which make the product more attractive and aesthetically complete.

5. Final product

After that comes the final stage, which is the final product with final color and final detailing, as the product is ready to be sold after this stage. The process is same in almost every product handcrafted by workers at studio KASSA.

As my brief was intended to design a product with minimal leather wastage. Studio KASSA believes in reduced waste and improved efficiency as they seek to use more of the leather they procure. As my given restrictions, I was expected to select small-sized items from Dog accessories that can be made from leather.

To achieve the aim of less wastage of material send me more productivity I chose this five products After my primary and secondary research about dog accessories. As per my research this five are the most used and Most procured products among pet owners, pet trainers and pet shops.

Pet Owners

Pet Trainers

A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message. In marketing and advertising, it is a particular group of consumers within the predetermined target market, identified as the targets or recipients for a particular advertisement or message.

76

Pet Stores

Identifying a target market helps develop effective marketing communication strategies for your company. A target market is a set of people who share similar needs or characteristics that your firm hopes to serve. These people are typically the end-users who are most likely to purchase your product.

dog collar.

78

About.

A dog collar is a piece of material that’s placed around a dog’s neck. A collar may be used to restrict, identify, fashion, or protect. Dog collars are often marked with identification tags and medical information. Collars are often used for restraining a dog in conjunction with a leash. Collars may be painful to the trachea if the dog struggles against leash restraint, creating extreme neck pressure.

Using a harness instead of a collar can be beneficial for tracheitis-prone dogs or those with collapsed trachea. Conversely, dogs can slip easily from too loose collars. This can be avoided by using a martingale dog collar which tightens to distribute pressure around the neck or training the dog not to pull.

79

History.

Dog collars originated in Ancient Egypt, and it was in Ancient Greece that the practical function of the collar was issued. Wolf hunting required a dog to serve as a lure, while the aim was to protect the dog’s neck.

80

Basic collars

Types.

Buckle collars Buckle collars, also known as flat collars, with a buckle similar to a belt buckle, or a quick release buckle, either holding the collar loosely around the neck of the dog. Commonly, identification is attached to such a collar; it often comes with a loop to which a leash can be connected. For dogs this is the standard collar. A flat collar on your dog’s neck will match comfortably secure.

It should not be so tight as to choke the dog nor so loose that they can slip out of it. Generally, you should be able to fit two fingers underneath the collar.

81

Types

Break-away collars Break-away collars look similar to buckle collars, but have installed a safety mechanism that enables the dog to break free of the collar when excessive force is applied.

82

These collars are useful in situations where the dog might get snagged and strangled by a non-quick release collar.

Safety stretch collars Safety stretch collars contain an elastic panel in the sturdy nylon collar, allowing to escape potential hazards of strangulation such as branches, fences, gates and other dogs.

Unlike breakaways, when clipped with a leash a stretch collar acts like a traditional collar.

83

Types

Special-purpose collars

Stud collars Stud collars, also called wolf collars, protective collars or spiked collars depending on the attachments, are collars fitted with metal studs, dulled dots or sharp dots that traditionally prevented another animal from biting the dog’s neck. The spikes are normally hand-set and firmly riveted for additional protection.

84

This type of collar dates back to ancient Greece, when dogs protecting livestock were given nail-studded collars to protect them from wolves or other predators. In modern societies, stud collars are more commonly considered a fashion accessory.

Reflective collars Usually made with nylon webbing, incorporate reflective tape that ensures that the dog will be seen at night by approaching vehicles.

85

Types

lighted collar A lighted collar (or collar light, dog light) is a collar that emits light to make a dog more visible to its owners and, more specifically, motorists nearby in the dark. It’s not meant to help a dog see at night, as it’s well documented that dogs have very good vision under low light.

86

For the light source, most light collars use one or more light-emitting diodes and can be virtually any color, although red and blue are most common. Power is supplied through one or more batteries.

flotation collar A flotation collar (or boyant collar) is a dog-made buoyancy aid. While it is not meant to be used as a life preserver or life jacket, while in the water it can provide extra buoyant support to a dog’s head.

It is also used as an aid in the recovery of wounded dogs in canine hydrotherapy facilities. The collar may be made of closed cell foam material that is inherently buoyant, or of an air-inflated type.

87

Types

medical collars

Flea collars The flea collars are impregnated with flea repelling chemicals. They are typically an extra collar, worn on top of the traditional buckle collar.

88

Elizabethan collar E-collar, Buster collar or pet cone (sometimes humorously called a pet lamp shade, pet radar dish, dog-saver, or shame cone) is a protective medical device worn by an animal, usually a cat or dog. Its purpose, shaped like a truncated cone, is to prevent the animal from biting or licking its body, or scratching its head or neck while wounds or injuries heal.

89

Types

trainning collars

Flat collars A lighted collar (or collar light, dog light) is a collar that emits light to make a dog more visible to its owners and, more specifically, motorists nearby in the dark. It’s not meant to help a dog see at night, as it’s well documented that dogs have very good vision under low light.

90

For the light source, most light collars use one or more light-emitting diodes and can be virtually any color, although red and blue are most common. Power is supplied through one or more batteries.

Martingale collar For sight hounds, martingale collars are recommended because their heads are smaller than their necks, and they can often slip out of standard collars. However they can be used for any dog breed. Their no-slip feature has made them a standard of safety at many kennels and shelters for animals. The structure allows the collar to be loose and comfortable, but tightens if the dog attempts to back out of it.

There are 2 loops in a martingale collar; the smaller loop is the “control loop that tightens the larger loop when pulled to prevent dogs from slipping out the collar. When pulled taut, a properly fitted martingale does not constrict the dog’s neck. Others use them snugly fitted to be able to use them in a manner similar to a choke chain but without the unlimited constriction of a choke chain.

Head halters Head halters, which are also called head collars, are similar to a horse halter in style. Pressure on this type of collar pulls the dog’s nose towards the handler and consequently their head. These types of collars can help to avoid a heavy dog from dragging an owner in an unsafe direction. They are also recommended for dogs pulling, as the strain on their wind pipe would no longer be direct. The theory behind the usefulness of head stoppers is that if you have head control, you have control of the head, you have control of the body.

92

The head collar generally consists of two loops, one behind the ears and the other over the nose. This tool generally makes it more difficult for the dog to pull on its leash. This is a management tool only, it does not train the dog not to pull.

aversive collars

Shock collars Shock collars are electronic training aids developed to deliver an electrical signal, vibration, tone, or light signal of low intensity to the dog via the collar. They are primarily used as a means of remote communication and widely accepted as the primary tool for deaf and working dog training. These consist of a radio receiver fixed to the collar and a transmitter held by the trainer. The collar gives off an aversive when activated. The specific aversives vary according to different collar make. Some emit sounds, some vibrate, some release citronella or other sprays of aerosols, some use electrical stimuli. A few collars have a few of these.

Of these the most common and widely used electrical stimulation is. Early electric collars provided only a single, high-level shock and were only useful for punishing unwanted behaviour. Modern electric collars are adjustable, enabling the trainer to match the level of stimulation to the sensitivity and temperament of the dog. They deliver a measured level of aversive stimulation that gives rise to a wide range of sensations, from a mildly irritating tingle or tap to severe discomfort and pain. Collars startle when used correctly, without the risk of producing permanent physical injury.

93

Types

Prong collars Prong collars, also known as pinch collars, are a series of metal links that fit together by connecting to the dog’s neck via blunt prongs pointing inwards. The prong collar design incorporates a chain loop that connects the ends of the prong series, so that it has a limited circumference, unlike choke chains, which have no limit on how far a dog’s neck can be restricted. The leash attaches to this chain section. There are two options on the prong collar for leash attachment, the dead ring and the live ring. The live ring is used when a dog needs more correction as it gives more slack when the leash is popped. The dead ring is used most commonly when first training a dog to use a prong.

94

The leash is attached to both rings, and is not as slack as when attached to the living. This section commonly has a swivel at the attachment point to lessen the leash’s twisting and potential tangling. The martingale chain’s limited traction coupled with the prong angle prevents the prongs from moving close enough to pinch. The collar is designed to keep the dog from pulling by exerting maximum pressure around the dog’s neck. The prong protects the trachea as it distributes pressure similarly unlike flat, martingale, or choke collars. Prong collars also buckle and don’t restrict.

Force collars Force collars are leather with metal prongs or studs lining the inside; similar in effect to prong collars.

95

Types

Choke chains Choke chains (also known as choke collars, slip chains, check collars, or training collars) are a chain long with rings at either end so that the collar can be formed into a loop that slips over the head of the dogs and rests just behind the ears around the top of the dog’s neck. The collar does not limit on the dog’s neck when the leash is attached to the “dead” loop. When the leash is attached to the “real” collar, when pulled, the chain slips tighter, and slips looser when released.

96

Training with this leash requires an immediate release fast jerk called a “leash pop,” “snap” or “correction.” This should correct unwanted behavior of a dog, such as leaving the position of “heel.” Pulling the choke chain harder or longer pushes on the dog’s trachea and/or larynx and can limit breathing.

fur saver collars

Fur saver collars Fur saver collars are a kind of slip chain with fewer and longer individual links than a near link chain, also known as a fur saver collar with long connection. Fur saver collars can be used for both long and short hair breeds which limit damage to the dog’s fur. It can also be used for workouts and daily use.

It is possible to ‘lock out’ the fur saver collar preventing it from constricting by connecting the leash connector to any connection within the chain, thereby reducing the infinite friction effect associated with a slip chain.

98

analysis

The drastic change in the basic shape of the collar is not possible and also not suitable as it is the most needed shape to stay just around the neck of the dog. This basic collar shape is perfect to give the dogs necks and heads extra support.

By changing only the external elements of the basic collar, different forms  of the collar can be created that are unique and stylish and can provide the product with the need for premium and high-end look.

99

ergonomics

100

analysis

Perfect measurements are so important for your dog to have a perfect ergonomical collar, as this is the essential part of the comfort of your dog. A collar is designed ergonomically to fight, instead of the base, over the middle of the dogs neck. The collar is always loose enough to create breathing space around the jawline of the dogs and also between the collar and the fur, so it is important to have sufficient breathing space to avoid shaking your pet when you take it for a walk.

It is designed in a way to be easy to use both for the owner or the customer to prevent any complications and for a seamless cycle of placing it on their pets. The caller’s mechanism should be ergonomical and easy for the user to understand, since some of the users will use it for the first time.

dog leash.

116

About.

A leash is one of the most important tools you’ll ever use with your dog. By teaching and educating puppy-hood, during your dog’s senior years, to the many fun outings together. A leash is important to provide supervision and compliance, while your dog knows what is appropriate and what is not.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to keep your dog leashed. 1. It’s a smart strategy for good neighbors, stopping the dog from trespassing on the neighbor ‘s land while walking. It also keeps your dog from jumping on people you meet, making sure your dog gets the chance to get introduced properly.

117

History.

Photos of dogs date back to 4400 B.C. in antique paintings. Pompeii mosaics show dogs wearing chains and collars and some doing heroic deeds while defending their owners. Seventh century tablets B.C. Display violent, leash restrained mastiff type hunting dogs. In Egypt, leashes were used to train dogs to search and defend men, and after death, some Egyptians who kept dogs as pets had them mummified with them. Roman women walked leashes on Italian greyhounds. The metal armor was used to defend roman dogs employed in warfare. Greek sheepdogs wear leather collars covered with nails to shield them from predators. In late 18th century England, the question of humaneness was raised and dogs returned to being pets on leashes.

118

The first greyhound of the French king Louis XI had sported a collar of rubies. Dogs used to hunt and to wear leather collars and leashes as shepherds throughout the Middle Ages. Flock guard dogs wear metal collars to protect against spikes. Spiked collars became popular at vicious sports during this period. Leashes were used to rough the dogs. This practice began in the 11th century and became illegal in the 1600’s. Traditionally, leashes were kept in the left hand, allowing people to hold a hunting rifle free to the right. Collars with padlocks were popular, and proprietors had keys to prove ownership. English bandogges were released at night to protect properties, and leashed during the day so they could not stray.

Types.

slip leash Slip leads, also referred to as “training leads,” look like normal leashes except at the end they have a small metal loop. They simply pull the leash through the ring of metal to create a wider loop that slips around the neck of the dog. Simple, simple-going.

Placing the slip leads on a dog’s neck is also something to keep in mind ... To avoid causing the dog to cough or choke they should sit high on the neck towards the ears. This is also a more sensitive area on a dog’s neck, making it impossible for them to pull hard on the lead when walking dogs around the facility.

119

Types

THE STANDARD FLAT Leash The traditional flat leash is familiar to all, with a hook to the end. They normally clip on your dog’s collar 4-8 feet long and come in several materials and lengths. Nowadays the round, ropelike material is popular, rather than the flat type.

120

A good quality standard leash fits well for all dogs, ensuring optimum protection and control when tailored to the size of your individual dog, due to the different thicknesses and strengths. For more flexibility we suggest you start with a 4-foot leash, adding length as your dog matures. The standard leash on your dog’s ensemble is a “staple” item.

GENTLE LEADER LEASHES Although the “gentle king” resembles more of a “collar” than a lead, it promotes itself as a king. Known as the gentle leader or haltis, the head collar loops around the dog’s muzzle. This is kind of like a harness for horses. The idea is that when the gentle leader is fitted over the muzzle of your dog and he starts to fire, the nose loop forces his head towards you to stop him from shooting and redirecting his attention to you.

Many assume that if a dog is adequately desensitized to a head collar, while wearing it, he would be more relaxed and secure. However, due to excessive rubbing, there is no reason for the persistent indentations around the muzzle, or hairless patches sometimes seen.

121

Types

HARNESS LEAD DOG LEASHES Harness leads are all fashioned from the same rope and a lead harness. Usually used to teach a dog not to jump, when he pulls or jumps up the harness lead will tighten around the dog’s body or chest area. The manufacture says this action helps relieve trachea strain.

122

Less trachea pressure is a great idea but be sure to read all the information on the manufacturer’s website in order to avoid injury or misuse. Sadly, when a typical harness explicitly places strain on the chest region of the dog, this may potentially cause a dog to pull harder against the leash.

MARTINGALE LEASHES The martingale leash is analogous to the slip rope. It too acts both as a collar and as a guide. It looks basically like a collar attached to the lead but with adjustability incorporated. The martingale leash was made for dogs with smaller heads and thick necks (like a greyhound) so it would stretch if he were to come out of the collar. The tightening decreases the probability that the dog may eventually be able

to get back out of the collar. You don’t see a martingale leash used very often but if you have a dog that tends to pull, they can be helpful. The martingale tightens around the neck to the extent the dog pulls to. Another advantage of the martingale leash is a fast on and off, making it a common option for regular, short potty walks to be hanging by the back door.

123

Types

RETRACTABLE LEASHES Retractable leashes give your dog the ability to wander from the small plastic handle that you hold, up to 30 feet. The handle contains a mechanism where the leash can be released and retracted as needed. In a controlled environment, the retractable leash is very ineffective, as the functionality does not guarantee a fast , precise response.

124

Our consequent lack of control can result in a very dangerous situation. You also run the risk of allowing your dog to approach another dog that isn’t too friendly something we see with retractable leashes in the lobby a little too often.

bungee leashes The Bungee leash is a shock absorber, providing a shield against any sudden movements you or your dog make. When the dog pulls the Bungee leash suddenly stretches out and pulls the dog back to you. The Bungee rope has been found to be of assistance to individuals with back or shoulder problems.

The Traffic Leash bungee provides both style and feature. Designed to absorb unwanted forces from jerky movements or sudden pulling with a padded handle and a strong bungee, this leash also features reflective stitching for low light visibility and a secondary handle at the base for additional control in high-traffic areas.

Ergonomics is about ensuring that people and the things they interact with fit in well. This could include the products they are using, or the environments in which they live. The architecture of a leash requires the handler to look for extra traction as the animal needs stronger, deeper or firmer contact. This can involve gripping the leash between thumb and forefinger, and winding the leash around the hand several times for better grip.

Since Leash is the product that affects both the user and the animal, it is always designed to make them feel ergonomically comfortable. Many dog leashes have one looped handle only to restrict the movement of the animal. This design forces the handler to look for additional grip when it needs closer, stronger or more firm control of the animal. This can mean grasping the leash between thumb and forefinger, and wrapping the leash around the hand multiple times for stronger control.

Package design and development are often seen as an integral part of the development process of new products. Alternatively, packaging (or component development) may be a separate process, but must be closely linked to the product to be packaged.

The design of products ends with the definition of all the requirements: technical design, marketing, shelf life, quality control, manufacturing, legal , administrative, graphic design, end-use and climate. It is necessary to establish and agree on the design criteria, performance, completion time targets, resources and cost constraints.

Anyone who has a dog and who flies should consider getting a bowl of travel puppies. Getting a bowl of water is a necessity; your dog may easily get dehydrated without a means to drink water. This is especially true if you are traveling during the warm weather months, but this also applies in winter.

ergonomics

194

analysis

A lifestyle product category, it’s always meant to enhance or embellish a product ‘s essence. The product’s buckles, stitches and other technical elements are always applied in light of ease of use and product aesthetics.

Ergonomics is the most important factor in the design of a travel bowl, because it can be used in many cases. A portable, easy to carry, easy to use and light weight travel bowl should be designed as it supposed to be carried.

195

Considering the ease of use and aesthetics of the device, the buckles, the stitching, water spilling, portability and other technical elements of the dog travel bowl are also used.

Functional elements are often found in this kind of product Useful to make it easy to use, and beautiful at the same time.

technology

198

analysis

In travel bowl technology for dogs, there are not many suitable options to travel along with, But technology has given us considerable power and flexibility in the way we work, when, and where, We can hit and get to quick every time.

Getting our work done can be an extremely powerful tool.

199

colour, Graphics , finish

200

analysis

Colour, or lack of colour, is an important component of any product design. With a strong understanding of color theory designers can affect a product and a brand beautifully, combining color boldly or with brilliant subtlety seamlessly. Even a smooth , glossy finish with texture might seem tangible. Through its visual appearance it gives a feeling of a tactile surface and adds a sense of depth, enhanced by selecting the appropriate paper and material.

The possibilities are limitless when it comes to graphics. It allow designers to split a space into a layout, or separate content. They can also be used to guide the viewer’s eyes, or to make other elements follow a strategic path for added findability, easily getting the viewer from point A to point B.

201

Inferences. ergonomics

There are so many different styles of travel dog bowls but most of them lack ergonomic features such as portability, easy to carry, easy to use and lightweight. There are so many travel bowel designs that are made of rigid material that makes them difficult to carry while traveling.

202

Some of the travel bowl design solves no spelling purpose, but they have confusing methods and inconvenient methods to use. As most travel bowls do not solve the function of spelling but lack the “easy to store capacity.

aesthetics

There are some travel bowl designs that accommodate aesthetic values, but confusing with methods.

In terms of visual appearance, the design of the travel bowls lack the appropriate forms.

There are limitations to the experimenting with the material and the basic need of bowl most of the designs lake premium looks.

Colour.

As Studio KASSA always attempts to connect their products to the environment, they designed the forest bags in forest green color in their previous collection to show the color connection to the environment.

They wanted to create a several collections with the same colours to show a connection with environment and nature as it is lacking and represent a big family of different products of different collection with same colour Which is inspired from the environment, the nature and the forest.

Finish.

If there is one constant in the world of design, it is transition. A new trend emerges every few years in hardware, decoration, and finishes. Today ‘s hot final is matte. Now Matte is a prominent design trend.

Also shiny leather fades by product use and any stains can be seen more clearly in glossy finish than matte finish. Matte finish gives the premium look to the products.

buckle , d ring , dog hoock

Details.

Dog hoock A lobster clasp, also known as a lobster hook, lobster claw, trigger clasp, or bocklebee clasp, is a spring-closed fastener.

D Ring A D-ring is a hardware object, typically a metal tie-down ring shaped like letter D, which was used primarily as a lashing point. Â To minimize obstruction when the D-ring is not in use, recessed tie-down rings are designed to accommodate the D-ring in such a way that they are flush to the surface.

228

Buckle The buckle essentially consists of four main components: the frame, chape, bar, and prong. The buckle or clasp is a device used to fasten two loose ends, one end being attached to it and the other being held securely but adjustably by a catch.

229

press button A snap fastener (also known as a press stud, popper, snap or tich) is a pair of interlocking disks made of metal or plastic, commonly used in place of traditional buttons for fastening clothes and the like. A circular lip under one disc slips into a groove at the top of the other, holding it tight until some force is applied.

stitchies Saddle stitch, It’s similar in intensity to a back stitch, but special in that you bring both needles through each opening. Saddle stitching is hand sewing with needles and thread to create two rows of stitching in one row of holes.

edge colour Any leather item that you make really ought to have some sort of finished edge. Turned, burnt, painted, whatever it may be, finishing the edges will greatly improve the quality of the work. Edge paint is often associated with high-quality or ‘fine leather working’ due to the smooth, consistent finish.

the India story

334

About. The India Story was launched in 2015 as a creative arts and design exposition. The last four years have been immensely successful with an amalgam of design minds from across the country, supported by an extensive media coverage and a wide audience. The India Story has evolved as an intrinsically space - driven project from the time of its inception. It has been nurtured to growth alongside the venue, Swabhumi. The organic nature of this space has enabled TIS to emerge into a platform that has encouraged distinct verticals like fashion, lifestyle, music, performances, food and arts to flourish spatially.

The India Story weaves magic with Above & Beyond. It rekindles the quest to redefine frontiers of vision, to present elements of design and creativity that seek to celebrate the finest design minds from the country. The India Story brings together a blend of the country’s leading designers, brands, producers, master craftsmen, artists, performers, and leading culinary brands under one roof in the cultural and intellectual hub of India – Kolkata.

Learnings. This was my first industry project, so I got to learn about professional work environment, working with strict timelines and understanding a system as a whole. The behavior of different users in different scenarios with different objects was analyzed to come up with something relevant to the current scenario and checking if the design works. Importance was given to overall form to each and every minute detail, as the product would be very close to the user. More time was spent examining the users and gaining insights from them to get a direction and motivation for idealization. Design process followed was different from the previous design projects undertaken, here it was more of making and checking if the design works. I have had the chance to work closely with the workers, the sales team and the vendors.

342

An important part of my learning was technical knowledge about die making, printing techniques, laser cutting, pattern making, and leather cutting. It was understood the importance of user analysis and design in the iterative process and the product modification. This project gave me a boost to design in what you believe is correct and relevant to the scenario. Many obstacles came in path, but they were dealt with, efficiency and corrective measures prevailing. This project made me realize my own caliber to perform and excel. Through all this learning, I had my hands on becoming a model for product photo shooting and knowing how to highlight product when shooting model in frame.

I am extremely grateful that I got my hands on these projects. This has helped me learn so much information. I have got the chance to tackle the photography and creative direction for photography, various

and their photographic needs and requirements. These four months in the industry driven experience have influenced me. This experience
