I have so many people to thank: from our dedicated band directors (at all levels) during the almost 2 years to our steadfast volunteers. The Marching Season was especially crazy not only due to our emergence out of Covid, but to the new scheduling and director assignments, which added additional challenges. Our amazing committee chairs and their army of volunteers kept the band marching forward, fed and clothed! We are so grateful and appreciative of the time and energy everyone has devoted to keeping the Shaker Heights Band Program strong! This year was especially hard without the guidance of previous chairs since we had a “1.5 year break”. Band Camp Meals: Organized by Ann Malone. Boosters provided a luncheon to the percussionists and Raiderettes during their first week of camp, a special luncheon to the band camp directors, a pizza lunch to the entire marching band the last week of band camp and a last minute pizza dinner before our twilight game. Uniform Distribution: Coordinated by Hannah Mendelsohn, Rachel Gurshman and Jen Bourdeaux. Volunteers helped to fit over 250 band members for uniforms during Marching Band Camp week. What a huge volunteer effort it is to fit the students and then track the uniforms distributed, all while following Covid protocols and dealing with a power outage!. Hospitality: Organized by Barb Fox and Linda Bertsch. Volunteers donated snacks and then distributed them to the visiting marching band AND our band at every home game! They also kept water jugs filled. Merchandise: Amy Neiman and volunteers helped promote band spirit by selling band merchandise at home football games. They will continue to sell band merchandise into the concert season. Bus Chaperones: Managed by Linda Sax. Volunteers supervised on each of the 8 busses for away games, made sure our host’s stands were clean by collecting any garbage that might have been overlooked by our band students and supplied fan support during the games! Senior Day: Orchestrated by Elinor Danford and Gina Willis. They worked with the band directors to recognize each senior band member and Raiderette. With the volunteers, they provided carnations and made sure each senior and their escort(s) were photographed to commemorate this special day. Uniform Collection: Coordinated by Megan Hangar -collected and tracked uniforms at the end of marching band season, then sent them off to be mended and cleaned for next year. Uniform Repairs: Headed by Mary Ellen Miller. She supervised uniform repairs throughout the marching band season and will be organizing volunteers to repair returned uniforms during the spring. Anyone who sews out there and would like to be added to their volunteer list please contact us! Patrons: Molly Ritts collected much needed donations to help us support all our school band programs. Behind the Scenes help - a group of dedicated volunteers who work behind the scenes: Meg Furey (Secretary and VP!), Toni Farkas (Alumni Mailing), Anita Miller (Treasurer), Josh Bourdrez (Webmaster), Anastasia White (Volunteers), Nicol Coxon (Middle School rep) and Stacey Hren (Woodbury rep). Keely O’Brien (Senior Recognition Night) and Ursula Rossman (Ice Cream Social) will be coordinating Spring events. Thanks to the athletic department and the custodians who eagerly helped us at every opportunity during the marching band season. Finally, thanks to all of you for your continued support and patronage of our Shaker Bands! The spring brings us all more opportunities to celebrate and volunteer, including Uniform Repair, Senior Recognition Night and the Ice Cream Social. To sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b054ba4a62da3fc1-shaker Exciting news for next year: all band students will have band during the same period so students will not need to be pulled out of classes and we are going on an International trip in March 2023! The directors (& your students!) will update you as things develop. If you have any questions about the Shaker Band Boosters, please contact me. Lastly, there is always a need for funding, especially after losing 1.5 years of programming. Become a band patron – We are pleased to announce multiple ways to donate to the Band Boosters.
