The Gift of Giving Teaching Children the Rewards of Giving
Children often associate the holidays with receiving gifts. Talk to your child about giving to friends and family or the less fortunate. The holidays are a perfect time to teach them about actions that will stick with them for a lifetime.
Here are five ways to start: Start small when the kids are young Teach your child that they don’t need money to give Involve them in selecting the gift Show them by being a role model Personalize giving
Here at Playworks, we will be sharing the Dakota value of generosity by donating to Toys for Tots. We’ll have a bin in our lobby Dec. 1-15 for you to donate toys to the less fortunate. Help make every child’s holiday one to remember!
5 Tips for Safer Holidays
More excitement during the holidays can also bring more safety hazards. Plan now to keep your kids and home accident-free with these safety tips:
Decorate the tree with your kids in mind. Move the ornaments that are breakable or have metal hooks towards the top of the tree, and the safer ones towards the bottom.
Use and install the correct car seat. Move to the next size booster seat when your child outgrows their current one. Make sure it is installed correctly before making the trip to grandma’s.
Water the tree regularly. If they are not watered regularly, needles can dry out and pose a potential fire hazard.
Blow out candles and store matches out of reach. Keep holiday candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn, and don’t forget to blow them out when you leave the room or before you go to sleep. Make it a habit of placing matches and lighters in a safe place out of children’s reach.
Prevent dangerous spills while cooking. Kids love to reach around, so avoid a spill by placing pots on back burners with the handles facing away.
