CARE PACKAGE

Little Girl’s Story Inspires Worldwide Response In 2013, a 5-year-old girl was badly burned in an act of arson that killed her father and three younger siblings. Now 8, all Sa’fyre Terry wants for Christmas is cards. Within a week of her wish being shared on Facebook in December, messages of hope from around the world flooded the Rotterdam Post Office in New York. Playworks director Amy Donaldson saw her story on Kare 11, and instantly knew she wanted to do something. Teachers and students from Playworks wrote cards, which have been sent to Sa’fyre along with a Playworks care package. “I wanted to put a smile on this little girl’s face,” said Donaldson. “She has dealt with more than many of us ever will. The students and teachers are all about giving, and I knew they would want to help.” Want to keep spreading hope? Cards can still be sent to: Sa’fyre Terry, P.O. Box 6126, Schenectady, NY 12306. Learn more or donate by visiting the Facebook page: “Safyre Schenectady’s Super Survivor.”

Playworks - Learning and fun go hand-in-hand!

“All along we knew God saved her for a reason. Never in our [wildest] dreams did we think she would move the hearts of many worldwide.” -Sa’fyre’s family

Cooking with Kids Learn Healthy Habits at an early age

Cooking can help young kids learn and practice basic math concepts and build language skills. The experience of “Kids in the Kitchen” creating meals with you can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits. It may take a little flexibility and some simple prep work, but with the right expectations, your time in the kitchen can be a culinary adventure you’ll both enjoy.

Below is an easy recipe that‘s kid-friendly and fun to prepare!

Recipe POWER BREAKFAST BARS

If you’d like help cooking together, we recommend this parent–child cooking class.

DIY Do it Yourself

Puffy Snowflake Paintings

Do you love painting projects, but are too impatient to wait for the paint to dry? These puffy snowflake paintings are a fun, open-ended art project that is simple and quick to do — with only 30 seconds drying time!

YOU WILL NEED:

salt | self-rising flour | food coloring (optional for snow designs) | empty dishwashing soap bottles (or something similar) | thick card stock

1.

In a bowl, mix equal parts salt and self-rising flour.

2. Add

a few drops of food coloring (optional, especially for snow designs.)

3. Next, add enough water to make it the

consistency of pancake batter. Pour into empty dishwashing soap bottles (or something similar).

4. Start making some cool winter designs! Place your child’s painting in the microwave for 30 seconds on high (microwave times will vary, of course.) and *poof* — paint is dry and super-puffy!
