elcome to the March issue of PW’s Playhouse. In this issue, you’ll discover the importance of art and music in your child’s development. Join us as we celebrate Dr. Seuss month at Playworks, inspiring children to read. Throw in a few recipes and crafts and you’ll have yourself a fun-filled afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at Playworks!

To Playcare Parents: Please remember to get your Playcare stamp before leaving Dakotah! Sport and Fitness. All membership cards must be presented upon check-in. No outside food or beverages. Remember, socks are required in the atrium.

DIY Do it Yourself

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large baking dish, combine all ingredients for the marinade and toss with chicken. Season well. Roast for 30 minutes until it begins to brown. Remove and baste with marinade. Flip pieces and bake a remaining 10 minutes or until chicken is cooked. Garnish with lots of fresh parsley.

Recipe EASY OVEN ROASTED CHICKEN Ingredients: 1 family pack of chicken ¼ cup soy sauce 2 tablespoons light brown sugar ¼ cup red wine vinegar ⅓ cup olive oil 1 onion, chopped 3 cloves of garlic, minced Handful of fresh parsley Salt and pepper

Through the arts, the child is able to develop themselves and their learning capabilities. They discover their passions and acquire lifelong skills. Participation in the arts is essential. It promotes creativity, confidence and perseverance in a child. The child is encouraged to use their imagination and show their feelings. Read Across America Gobbled up your Green Eggs and Ham? Share your appetite for reading with your child as you jump on board the reading train. Children across the country are gearing up for the National Education Association’s Read Across America day. This nationwide event on March 2, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, celebrates and encourages reading among children and teens. The party doesn’t stop there! Playworks is celebrating Dr. Seuss all month long. Join the fun as we celebrate the joy of reading.

ALL MONTH LONG Read Across America

Week 1: Door decorating and stickers with Dr. Seuss quotes available in all classrooms. Week 2: We’ll read Dr. Seuss books all week long. Week 3: Dress Up Day on March 9. Dress up like your favorite Seuss character or wear your clothes backwards. Week 4: Family Movie Night on March 24 from 5-7pm in the Playworks LINK Event Center. Includes complimentary popcorn, hot chocolate, and lemon water. Breakfast: Green Eggs and Ham on March 8, 10, 22, 24 *Other breakfast options will be available. Our staff will bid farewell to families each day with a Dr. Seuss-themed departure.

DIY Do it Yourself MUSICAL WATER GLASSES

The pounding of a drum floods your kitchen. Your child beats on an array of bowls like she’s in a rock band. Trust us! You want her to make music on her own. It encourages a love for the arts and inspires imagination and creativity. This Do-It-Yourself project is an easy, fun activity that will fascinate your child!

YOU WILL NEED:

A few clear glasses of the same size Food coloring A spoon Water Fill the glasses with different amounts of water. Add food coloring to give each glass its own unique color. Have your child tap the glasses with the spoon. The different levels of water will produce different sounds. Have fun!
