HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TIPS FOR MEN In recognition of Men’s Health Month, the June What’s In Store will focus on the importance of taking the proper steps to prevent common health problems for men. A healthy diet is necessary for optimal health, but eating specific foods can also help protect against common men’s health concerns. All of the foods listed below can help men protect against many health issues, including muscle recovery after exercise, depression, cognitive impairment, erectile dysfunction, infertility, and more. Blueberries contain a high amount of antioxidants to help battle inflammation, which can increase the risk of heart attacks. Try a cup a day in a smoothie, or on top of yogurt or granola. Beets are great for heart health as they unleash helpful compounds in your blood that expand your blood vessels and improve blood flow. Try them roasted in a salad or in your favorite juice. Nuts contain heart-healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Snack on unsalted raw nuts, nut mixes, and nut butters to improve your heart health. Fatty fish such as wild salmon are rich in omega-3’s, which are shown to improve cardiac capacity during exercise, and are also great for brain health, too. Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in your body that help regulate everything from metabolism and sleep cycles to blood pressure. More than 70-80 percent of the population is deficient in magnesium. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to a heightened risk of heart disease and cancer. Vitamin D bolsters your immune system and helps uptake calcium, which prevents bone loss.
When making changes to your diet, don’t focus solely on counting calories. Work on adding color, variety, and freshness to your meal plan. Make changes slowly—a healthy diet won’t happen overnight. Small steps, like eating a salad once a day, will eventually become a habit. Healthy diets aren’t always perfect, and you don’t have to eliminate all the foods you enjoy to be healthy.

Instructions
Add coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter to a small saucepan over low heat. Stir continuously until melted. Once completely melted, remove from heat and whisk in arrowroot powder and baking soda. Add essential oil blend. Mix thoroughly but quickly as mixture starts to thicken. Pour into two empty deodorant containers and let sit until completely set (a couple of hours). Place lid on and use as you would any other deodorant.

RECIPE
LEMON AND MINT VANILLA BERRY SALAD Dressing Ingredients 1 pound fresh strawberries 6 ounces fresh blueberries ½ vanilla bean pod 3 sprigs fresh mint, chiffonade Zest of 1 lemon 1 tablespoon sugar Directions Wash berries and put in a medium-sized bowl. Set aside. Cut vanilla bean in half and scrape out seeds and put into the bowl with fruit. To chiffonade the mint, stack leaves, rolling them tightly, then slice the leaves perpendicular to the roll. Add mint, lemon zest, and sugar to bowl. Stir until fruit is well coated with sugar. Let sit for approximately 15 minutes and serve. Can be served plain or over ice cream, Greek yogurt, etc.
