OHIO UNIVERSITY LAND LAB

RIDGES GREEN

CONSERVATION LAND 1

CONSERVATION LAND 2

THE RIDGES GREEN The Ridges Green is the closest area of The Ridges to the main Ohio University campus, with many of the historic buildings providing opportunities for creative and visionary redevelopment. The main Kirkbride buildings define the essence of the Ridges Green, with their iconic facades presiding over Ohio University.

CONSERVATION LAND 1 (formerly Development land) Connected by trails and Dairy Lane to the Ridges Green, Conservation Land 1 area is used by local residents and the campus community for recreation. It has broad areas of topography that are favorable for options that support the mission of Ohio University, including increased research, academic use, and recreational uses.

CONSERVATION LAND 2 (formerly Development land) Conservation Land 2 area is generally more removed from Ohio University, less developed, and less used by the public than other portions of The Ridges. As access is improved, this area may have increased development potential. The City of Athens has expressed interest for a new public road in the location, which would support development.

THE LAND LAB The Land Lab occupies 200-acres in northeast of the Ridges Green with ongoing research and academic use that directly supports the academic mission of the University. While the Land Lab’s primary use is for research and academic use, much of the public recreational use of The Ridges occurs on a number of trails within in this zone.

DAIRY LANE CORRIDOR Many visitors enter The Ridges from Dairy Lane as it is the primary corridor due to vehicular access and existing utilities. Rural in character, most of the existing development consists of private residences, the Dairy Barn, and facilities that support local health services.
