In the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, in a region known as Merelani in northern Tanzania, a spectacular discovery was made in the late 1960s. It was 1967 when Ndugu Jumanne Ngoma - a Maasai tribesman stumbled upon a cluster of vibrant blue crystals. These crystals were unlike any other gemstone found before, captivating with their intense blue-violet hue. The discovery was initially mistaken for sapphires, but further examination revealed a new and rare gem: tanzanite.

ABOUT SHAMBALLA JEWELS

Our story started in 2001 when the very first bracelet, now known as the iconic SHAMBALLA ® Braided Bracelet, was sketched for the music impresario Jay-Z. Back then, our co-founder Mads Kornerup designed a bracelet with a handful of precious stones connected with a simple string. This minimalistic yet luxurious design has rebelled against everything we knew about high-end jewelry until then.

Being inspired by Buddhist prayer beads called malas and connecting them with the quality of Nordic design, the Jay-Z bracelet has opened an exciting chapter for Mads and Mikkel Kornerup - the two brothers, who later established Shamballa Jewels.

Drawing inspiration from East-Asian tales and Nordic design principles, Shamballa Jewels takes its name from a mythical kingdom hidden in a valley in the Himalayas where peace, tranquility, and pure happiness thrive. Shamballa Jewels creates jewelry based on 18K gold, diamonds and precious stones and the design repertoire now includes customizable bracelets, necklaces, cufflinks, earrings and rings.
