User Experience Design [Group/Individual Project]
Vibe - A Nightlife App This project has been set in collaboration with the O2 Customer Experience Design team. We needed to design a smartphone app that enhances the experience of Smart City living. Students and venues face a diverse range of problems when it comes to nightlife in a smart city; the connection between students and venues has become strained causing adversity for both parties. A carefully considered solution needed to be delivered to both types of user.

of users enjoyed the main menu interface. They though it was simple and easy to follow. thought the navigation bar could be simplified by only including the most used features. of users though the timeline page was too cluttered and difficult to navigate through. didn’t want to scan a code to collect their drink as they don’t feel comfortable taking out their phone in public areas. of users use contactless payment often and would like to see it implemented within the app.
Having developed the idea at a preliminary stage, further design thinking, development and user testing was required to produce a functional end product. Prototyping methods such as POP and hand drawings enabled me to efficiently produce and test design ideas. These were then refined until they met the user’s specification.

Final visualisation This project provided me with an insight into the difficulty involved within industrial manufacture. From this, I developed new skills and learnt how to overcome key manufacturing issues to reach an end goal.

Design and Manufacturing Tech. [Group Project]
Apple iYo Apple iYo is a yo-yo that is used to tidy wired headphones. The aim in this team project was to design a desireable promotional product for a chosen brand and then manufacture the injection mould tool to produce the product. The main challenge was designing within the constraints of the mould tool manufacture.

Starpack Design Competition Listerene Mouthwash - The Next Generation
Brief: The aim of this brief was to create a distinctive pack, or range of packs, that can be used for a new Listerine mouthwash – a future generation of design that gives this leading mouthwash brand differentiation from others. Creative graphics and brand identity were used to offer a simple but functional packaging solution.

One Week Design Project [Individual Work]
Makali - a unique kitchen tool The idea behind this one-week project was to push myself as a designer by producing elegant and responsible solutions to real life challenges. The brief involved designing a product to improve domestic household chores. This could be to add greater enjoyment to a task, convenience or functionality. I aimed to add value to kitchen activities in the home. Makali is unique kitchen tool that encompasses the features of a knife (to chop) and a pestle and mortar (to grind/crush). A chopping board that integrates a mixture of curved and flat surfaces along with a knife sharpener that accompanies the tool. Sustainability has been carefully considered with a product-to-service system employed.

Personal Projects [Graphic/Typography Design]
Music Inspired Artwork My profound interest into the culture of Rap, Hip-Hop and R&B music often influences my personal design work. I thoroughly enjoy combining my understanding of music with my knowledge of graphic design and typography (e.g. graffiti). Music and design are two cultures that often blend together to create impressive pieces of design. Such interest helps express my creativity to produce unique artwork.

About me Hello, my name is Shameel Batavia I am a committed and driven Design student at Loughborough University currently seeking a 6/12 month industrial placement in a vibrant and innovative company starting in summer 2017. A social and friendly individual, I appreciate the value of teamwork and collaborating with my peers to better the end result and develop my own skill set. Design should not always been seen as a competition, because different perspectives and experiences contribute to gaining a wider scope and clearer insight into the task at hand. Design is limitless, with flexibility and diversity at its core. The freedom it gives me to explore different ideas and concepts inspires me to not only design as part of my degree but in my leisure time also. Design for me is not restricted to industrial design. My philosophy is centred on the fusion of different cultures and design practices to produce well-rounded and original products and ideas.
