GOING TO GARRETT: VFCL & Field Ed

By combining hands-on field education experience with our academic course series, Vocational Formation & Church Leadership, we offer students the finest opportunity to discern, test and refine their call to ministry.

Vocational Formation & Church Leadership (VFCL) VFCL is a 3 year (6-semester) course series for Master of Divinity degree students. Each of the three VFCL courses has its own distinct areas of focus: 1st year - Discern vocational call and develop spiritual practices 2nd year - Develop management, problem solving and contextual analysis skills 3rd year - Refine professional identities and claim authority as Christian leaders Small group meetings are led by area clergy and ministry professionals and: provide a community for mutual care, accountability and interchange of ideas support and inform students' field site work provide a model for future professional peer group conversation and support Plenary sessions are led by seminary faculty and expert guest presenters on topics including: https://t.e2ma.net/webview/bfqwf/f5bbc1aee63b41777b50c75aa0b163d0

Field Education Field education begins in the fall of the 2nd academic year and is concurrent with the second year of VFCL. Master of Divinity students are required to take 3 years of VFCL and 2 years of field education. Master of Arts students' requirements vary by degree. While in Field Education, MDiv students serve 15 hours per week at their field site and may remain at the same site for both years or chose a second site. Our program offers: Field Site Discernment - We guide each student to a site where they will learn and grow. A Variety of Sites - Options include churches, chaplaincies, social service agencies, etc. Mentoring - Students meet weekly with the site supervisor for reflection and support. Compensation - Students receive a $3,500 stipend for each academic year.
