STANDING FOR US ALL

“I´m talking to you on Tuesday, October 8th 2019 about plates 3327 and plates 3328 of Greta Thunberg from Sweden, the environmental activist”, reads Shane into his recorder.

Clearly influenced by his meeting with Greta, Shane states that this is the most important work he has ever done.

“To me, these are probably the most significant wet plates of our generation. Who else is bigger than this young lady. She has concerns, valid concerns, and all she is doing is telling people to pay attention to science and start acting on the science.”

Greta´s activism has not been free of criticism, some often targeting her personally, rather than her message. Just doing work with, and about her in a positive manner could be considered controversial.

“The backlash she has been getting is extremely harsh, I´m expecting to get a lot of backlash about this work too, but I could give a fuck.”

“She is sixteen years old and she is such a sweetheart. I could not say more nice things about the experience I had, and her father. How humble they are. They are doing this not for themselves, they´re doing this for all of us.”

Shane had only 15 minutes to take the photos. The narrow timeframe limited the amount of plates hecould use.

This is exactly why I fucking do this. This is why I chase these portraits and why I deal with this very complex process. This is what it´s all about for me, and I feel very grateful to be given the opportunity.”

Thinking back to the event, Shane reflects on how he basically had little to no time to prepare the plates. His first thought being that the landscape should be her background.
