INTRODUCTION Shane Steven Filan, better known as the frontman of pop boy band Westlife, is a famous marvel of the musical world adored for his incredible song writing and extraordinary singing talents. Born in Sligo, a busy town in the Northwest of Ireland, he bewitched uncountable music enthusiasts with his chocolate boy looks coupled with a sensational voice. Shane captivated a large section of the audience and garnered a zillion accolades. He attended Summerhill College with bandmates Mark Feehily & Kian Egan where he also found the love of his life, his childhood sweetheart Gillian. Forming a little band called IOU, with Mark, Kian and other Sligo lads Derrick, Graham Michael, his life turned a new leaf when his mother Mae Filan contacted erstwhile Boyzone manager Louis Walsh, who arranged a meeting with A&R honcho, Simon Cowell. The rest, as they say, is history. Westlife (Earlier known as Westside) was formed with Shane, Mark, Kian from Sligo and Brian McFadden and Nicky Byrne from Dublin. Selling over 50 million records worldwide as a lead vocalist of Westlife, he carved out a niche for himself in the music world. Belting out numerous tunes, ballads after ballads, his raspy versatile voice continues to enamor the hearts of many. After ruling the charts for 14 years and 14 no.1 singles Westlife disbanded in 2011, calling it a day. His life turned over to a sad chapter as Ireland faced its worst property market downfall, akin to an apocalyptic phenomenon. His business venture which he began with his brother Finbarr Filan as he saved for a rainy

day post Westlife, called 'Shafin Developments' collapsed, leaving him bankrupt and his world topsy turvy in 2012, leaving scores of followers baffled. But hey, what's life without its ups and downs? After facing many trials and tribulations and a bankruptcy row, Filan went on to being a solo artist, signing his first record deal with Universal Music for the magical album, 'You and Me'. His support structure was unrattled. His wife Gillian, his children, Nicole (10), Patrick Michael (7) and Shane Peter(6), his mentor Louis Walsh and his countless fans stood by him like a rock. Cut to present day... Two solo albums, tours and an autobiography later, he stands to be one among the established performers in Ireland and UK, notwithstanding his crazy fanatics worldwide! USA, Germany, Mexico, China, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and plenty more! You name it and they have his back! His philanthropic stints include the innumerable charity organisations and fundraisers he performed for, and also a well-known patron of Niamh's next step, along with wife Gillian. FAN MAILS! Hey! Firstly, let me wish you loads and loads of Health, wealth and happiness on your 37th Birthday! My fascination with you began when I would listen to audio tracks of Westlife and wonder "Who is this amazing person who starts every song in his signature raspy style?!" I so loved that voice that I decided I need to find out myself. A little bit of prodding around on YouTube led me to Westlife's official channel and there began my love affair with one of the world's biggest boybands! I was particularly fascinated by the studio version of you singing Flying without wings and World of our own in the studio, with all the lads having good fun and craic in there. Yes, you got me hooked and I've never strayed since. 'Mesmerized' is the closest possible word I could use to describe my feelings. Soon I landed with the news that Shane Filan had released his first album, 'You and Me', and 'My Side of Life, his autobiography. Eeeek! How on God's Green Earth was I to miss that?! I had to read it and that I did. It still remains one of my favourite books which I could read repeatedly. I missed the part when you visited India in September 2013, as I was in a limbo and never came to know about it! How lame could that be?! I still regret it and wish that you came back to India and that I could get to see you once, if not meet personally! To pacify myself, I hung on to your book and albums, the latest being Right Here and I prayed (still do) to God everyday that you come to India soon. I adored your fighting spirit and Gillian and you are an ideal couple that give me life goals, after reading your autobiography. I sincerely wish I meet you someday, and till then I keep praying for your happiness and well being. Also a little wish for a Westlife reunion (Sorry, I'm being selfish but I loved you all!). Happiest Birthday ever! I really hope this magazine reaches you before the 5th. If not, well it's our bad! So here's the letter I wrote for you. I missed your EP launch Tour to India on 23rd September, 2013. I'm sorry. I tortured myself for being a bad fan though! (Didn't eat for two days while WARNING God at the same time - "Take me to Mumbai right now or ...!") Yeah I was that stupid. And you wouldn't be proud of it. So I'm sorry again. As an apology I mugged up the car number in which you came - a white Volvo S80, Mh-04-CW9080. I don't know how that helps though! XD The only thing I wish for is to see you Face To Face. Well I'm sure I'd die of a heart attack when & if that happens, but hey, I won't mind! Remember "If your eyes are the last thing that I see, then I know the beauty heaven holds for me"? Hahhah! Oh, I LOVE 'You & Me' and 'Right Here' (Number 1 in Ireland!!!!! Congratulations!! :)) Each song is so unique, so believable & they all make perfect sense! Reading 'My Side Of Life' (of which I have the hardcover, double cellophane wrapped!) brought me about five steps closer to you. I wished I could take your pain away. And guess what? I'd even started collecting my pocket money with a childish desire to post it over to Ireland. I was a naive 1516 year old and knowing about all you've been going through at that moment, I broke down. Hey I don't mean to creep you out, but I'm always here for you! :) And you know, I LOVE 'Me & The Moon'. "Love" is too lame a word to describe the feeling though! The day it released, I heard it over 200 times back to back. Yeah. Not because I just wanted to learn up the lyrics, but because it touched me somewhere deep within. Still does. So Thank You for singing it :) I want you to come to India. But honestly speaking, there are only so many Fans here :\ It kills me to see how people fail to appreciate 'Good Music' in its truest sense. It'd never be satisfactory to you to include India in your Touring list, I understand. It's not your fault. You are the Best I know. But I sure hope to see the 'SOLD OUT' sign here too, someday, and believe me my friend, that day is so near! :) So whenever you'd like, #ComeToIndia - 4971.97 miles only! (come during the winters cause the summers here are pathetic and you'd feel really uneasy and you'd never want to come back! :0 ) By the way, we both have a lil OCD! We have a lot of unusual things in common actually! Ditto sleeping habits, exact gap between our lower left premolars, and we make the same crinkles on our faces while singing the "whoa ohh whoa" part of 'Baby Let's Dance'. Ok, I'm ridiculous. XD

Well, I have grown up listening to you. We have grown up together! From me pronouncing your surname wrong & singing all wrong WL lyrics, to your happy-sad, sane-insane moments and your voice changing phase, I've been with you through it all! And thus, my friends call me 'Shaneparna' XD I could type your name on a keyboard with my eyes closed. I could make out your faintest harmonizations. I could narrate your songs like a poem in one breathe. It's like a competition among us fans trying to prove to each other 'who is the better fan' and all. Hahhah! It's so silly & cute & funny! But then all I care about is the fact that probably now you know that I love you. That's all I want today! I sang 6 of your covers on Soundcloud but I guess you never came across my tweets! :( But then, its fine, cause I’m sending you a CD along with our magazine! Hope you don’t hate them! :D I just wanna make you proud of me. Hope you will be!  So now concluding this 'something-that-was-supposed-to-be-a-letter-butturned-out-to-be-an-essay' XD, I'd say,I'm proud of everything you do & I'll support you always, no matter what. You are an Inspiration. My favourite person. (Like, my Christmas wish-list goes as follows : You, God, My sister, My mum, Taylor Swift, n the rest :D ) So, always keep smiling. My dear Shane, A very Happy Birthday to you! I grew up listening to the songs beautifully sung by you in Westlife. My summer vacations wouldn't be complete without singing out 'Seasons in the Sun' on the terrace. And I had great company, my sisters and I would sing all of the songs of 'Westlife' with all our hearts.The kind of stage presence you have is unbelievable. I was in awe when I saw the way you effortlessly hit those amazing notes. Music to me, is the thing which makes me feel alive. I experience a spectrum of emotions when I hear music. I've always dreamt of attending a live concert of my favorite singers (Quite literally, I've had plenty of dreams where I've got to meet them � ) It's at the top of my bucket list. Shane, you are one among my favorites (Westlife being my favorite band� ), I really want to see you perform live. I want to witness your charisma as you sing those powerful ballads, the energy that radiates when you sing a dance song and the soul stirring vocals of the acoustic songs. I want to you to keep singing and spread happiness like you always do. I listen to your songs every day and sing along at the top of my lungs.

When my Mum uses an English word while conversing with me and if that word is a part of a lyric then I start singing that song, and all she can do is just watch. She's used to it by now, and sometimes she even joins me. I have immense amount of respect for you. You are a living example to many of us as to how one can overcome the tough storms and come out stronger. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us through your book. I also look up to Gillian for being such an amazing woman. Lots of love and best wishes for the Filan family. I have a request to make, please be more active online. I want to see your practice sessions, see you play the guitar. I also wish I could see more of you on Indian television. Westlife was and is still huge in India but we didn't have any concerts here. There are only few people on this earth who become successful in touching our hearts and establish their thrones in our hearts’ surface. For me, Shane is one such man. Over the years, his soulful, sweet, and energetic voice has captured the hearts of many people, both young and old. I, being an Indian, never came to know of Westlife until 2012 which was also, sadly, the year of the band’s split. But this didn’t stop me from listening to their songs. And the moment I laid my eyes upon Shane, I felt my world stop turning. His each and everything seemed to attract me. His sweet voice, his charming nature, his jolly face, his full of energy attitude started to hypnotize me. From then on, I’ve always found him breathtaking. He, along with his former band mates, had gifted us with 14 No. 1 singles, for which I am truly grateful. But these are not the only reasons why I love and adore him so much. After Westlife’s split, he was declared bankrupt and left in debts. But even after losing everything, he didn’t despair. He knew he had to take care of his beautiful family. His family supported him through this dark phase and encouraged him to rebuild what he had lost. This shows the strong bonding that exists between them. Through his hard work, he is once again standing tall. This incident encourages me to face the challenges of life with bravery. His debut solo album, You and Me, has inspired me to have a positive outlook towards life. It makes me believe that even when my life is surrounded by darkness and hopelessness, I shouldn’t give up and keep struggling to get everything back on track. His 2nd solo album, Right Here, is no less. Both of his albums are full of soulful songs which soothe my mind and heart and fill my veins with unimaginable joy. The cheerful songs make me want to dance with delight. His unfailing faith in his fans and his always-positive nature is something which I respect and adore very much . Thus, he taught me, that through dedication and determination, I can make anything and everything possible.

He has given his fans loads of love and wonderful songs to cherish and I am ready to return the love with equal vigour. I will continue to support him throughout my life. P.S: HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANE!!! Speaking about Shane Filan, he always reminds me about my childhood’s life. He became my idol when he still joined Westlife about few years ago. He’s my first idol. His cute face and unique voices that he has makes me being his fan until now. Shane carrier always making me won’t stop for being so proud of him. His journey of life always inspired me like in my every single day. Especially when he fallen into debt. The way he was trying to get out of that situation and move on taught me not to giving up e ven any kind of problems trying to put me on the lowest ground. The support that he got from Gillian that written on his book shows that he’s being the luckiest man in the world. Gillian really loves him and going to get through with him in every condition he passed away. After he’s coming back from his rough situation, I’ve seen that he’s being an unstoppable man now. The crowd in each concert that he did never less, they are all still the same right before he started solo carrier. I’m so proud to be your fan especially for the last 15 years (2000-2016). My wish for your birthday is still the same as the last year.
