Kalinaw is a holiday house project for an entrepreneur who is interested in a holistic attitude to health and wellbeing. Kalinaw is a space which inspires creativity and his passion for professional pursuits. Located in a bush site, this project incorporates outdoor spaces and a yoga retreat to allow guests to engage with their health through nature. Kalinaw aims to provide its users the opportunity to experience the site differently from their everyday lives.

18
This is a place to relax, to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, to rejuvenate, and to cleanse. It is a place of exchange and communication, to meet new people, and to venture out into new things. Kalinaw is about prospect and refuge as the users witness the panoramic bush views, effortlessly celebrating the site’s natural environment.

FRILLISH 30
Frillish is an interactive installation activated by the observer through proximity and light. This was achieved through digital fabrication techniques, physical computing, and rapid (laser-cut) 1:1 prototyping to deliver a 1:1 folly. It uses Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs) to switch between resting and active states. Inspired by climate change and the environment, Frillish’s 36 jellyfishes gently bob, propelling skyward into an ocean of air in its latent state.

SUB-STRUCTURE
A tri-arm perspex frame is employed as the sub-structure of each individual cluster, where each arm holds up 1 module. The perspex sub-frame is screwed on top to connected 3 individual modules. The tri-arm configuration prevents overlapping of the modules and stops them from colliding during movement.

MUSEO 38
What is it like in the mind of someone with lived experience? Schizophrenia is a mental health problem that disrupts the function of the human mind causing one to experience hallucinations and delusions. As the stigma continues to rise for Schizophrenia, this museum is designed as an experiential and learning space to educate the public and raise awareness about schizophrenia to help diminish the highly damaging idea of psychosis today.

HALLWAY
Designed to be an experiential space, the highlight of this museum is the journey it creates for its users. Just like no schizophrenia experience is alike, users may circulate around the space differently as they can choose what areas they would like to start in.
42
COURTYARD
Designed with a cold and hard shell on the outside, the central courtyard as its core is a slight representation that people with schizophrenia still receive little empathy and have difficulty socialising with others. This is only accessible from the basement, with the ground floor’s view to the bottom distorted as it slightly alters reality.
43
VIEW TO COURTYARD
The rotating and interlocking squares that make the floor plan creates an altered depth perception where they can only see certain things from a certain point. This enhances the idea of a journey as not everything is unveiled at once.
44
SLANTED COLUMNS / PERMANENT GALLERY
Most permanent gallery spaces are connected and designed to help one understand what it’s like to have schizophrenia. This involves several spaces that may make users experience disoriented, vulnerable, alone, afraid or delusional, which obscurely emulates how one with schizophrenia feel.
45
THE POD 46
The Pod is an interactive architecture that focuses on biomimicry and materiality. Using wood as a material, it manifests how architecture can blend with nature. The Pod gracefully occupies the area as it provides interaction between users and the environment. As it seamlessly harmonises and unifies with nature, the Pod continues to become a significant addition to the site without isolating it from nature.

MECHANISM

4
Mimicing a Mimosa Pudica, the idea of The Pod would have each seating area trigger as humans interact with it. As people sit, the ring and seat would lower. Thus, triggering petals to bend. As people stand, the ring and seat would rise. Thus, bringing petals back to vertical position. Flexiply would be used due to its flexibility. This meets the criteria of what we were looking for – to show that wood is flexible and bendable.
49
A seating area is a versatile design installation for the community of CERES and Merri Creek. The ample space, which is rich with cultural identity, may be good for recreational purposes. Thus, the installation may be one of the reasons users would want to go back to the site to use for relaxation in between walks or runs.
50
To benefit more people, the proposal would be placed in reserves, parks, and empty spaces by the creek. Additionally, its interactivity brings people together, emphasizing engagement within the community just as CERES preaches.
