Colbie Calliat <All Of You> With her familiar driving beats, playful piano, and light guitar accompaniments, platinum-award artiste Colbie Caillat is back again with her latest album All of You. Featuring collaborations with heavyweight songwriters Ryan Teddler, Toby Gad, Jason Reeves, and Rick Nowels, this up-tempo pop album has been described by Caillat as a “full-on summer album”. The album’s titular track “All of You” kicks off with Caillat’s signature rhythmic guitar grooves, subsequently layered with smooth vocals that have turned her into the internationally-acclaimed singer today. The song sings of the acceptance of the one she loves - the good, the bad, and the unknown secrets, all of him. Essentially a mix of pop with soft rock with a twist of country and a dash of R&B, the album All of You comes off as a long running chain of hits and misses. The album’s lead single, “I do”, is reminiscent of Shania Twain’s popular country tunes, with a rhythm that’s bound to set your toes tapping. The song describes the euphoric emotions of falling in love, clearly inspired by a time of finding the right partner and taking the next step. Unfortunately, the lyrics leave you feeling shortchanged and tend to strike you as uninspiring and lacking, which is a recurring problem throughout the album. Charting at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100s and generating mixed to positive reviews by critical reviewers, this album been described as being “virtually indistinguishable from (her) previous work”. All things considered, All of You is an uplifting album and makes for great easy listening; as long as you’re not searching for a profound moment of inspiration or that sparkle of musical brilliance.
