The Legend Lives On OUR STORY We opened in 1995 across the street as part of a national franchise group. Our Lowveld weather and an outdoor lifestyle was celebrated with unique open-air seating, roaring fires and tranquil pools filled with fiery koi. It soon became the place of choice for an authentic Lowveld “kuier� for young and old. In 2008, the need to offer more space and build on our unique atmopshere was answered when Jock found its new home in its present location. This move signalled the start of an independently owned and managed identity as Jock & Java. Now, as Jock Pub & Grill, the park-like grounds, open-air spaces, fires and koi continue to remind loyal fans, old and new, that this Lowveld legend lives on - much like the legend of Jock himself.

Jock of the Bushveld was first published in 1907 when it became an instant best seller and a local classic.
Jock of the Bushveld is a true story by South African author
Sir James Percy FitzPatrick.
The book tells of FitzPatrick’s travels with his dog, Jock, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, during the 1880s, when he worked as a storeman, prospector’s assistant, journalist and ox-wagon transport-rider in the Bushveld region of the Transvaal (then the South African Republic).
