YEAR 4, SEMESTER 8 STUDIO with Brea Mann-Lewis CAD drawings, Rhino 3D Renderings The Church of Sacred Community is a proposed design for a Catholic church in the proposed West Don Lands Neighbourhood. This studio required an exploration and understanding of the traditional liturgy of Christianity, and an active discussion about how a sense of sacred is manifested in architectural form. The proposed design expresses a belief that spirituality involves a strong connection to the earth, as well as with God and the Heavens. Thus, the design expresses this beautiful tension between the earth and the sky, and concurrently between the community and personal spirituality.

YEAR 4, SEMESTER 7 STUDIO historic research, CAD drawings, Rhino 3D renderings Pruitt- Igoe was an ill-fated social housing project which was built in St. Louis in the early 1950s. As living conditions continually declined, the buildings were condemned and demolished between 1972 to 1977.

Overlay Analysis
The street pattern and scale of built form was radically changed when Pruitt Igoe was constructed. This proposal reintroduces streets through the site, in order to re-integrate the area with its surroundings. Meanwhile, the shifting pattern of the slender Pruitt Igoe buildings has served as the main inspiration for this proposal. In this scheme, the previously inclosed space becomes the open space, which defines the pattern of smaller scaled live/work structures at the perimeter.

The objective of this proposal is to create a vibrant, mixed use community that is flexible over time. The village could potentially act as a catalyst to repopulate the surrounding neighbourhood. 2

YEAR 3, SEMESTER 6 STUDIO historic research, CAD drawings, Rhino 3D renderings The Toronto Museum would hold a number of artifacts which show the narrative of Toronto through the stories of various individuals. As such, it is fitting that the building honour Toronto’s history, and the built history of the site and surroundings.

YEAR 2, SEMESTER 4 STUDIO CAD drawings, Rhino 3D renderings The proposed design for a new student residence encourages pedestrian movement through the site. The external facades contribute to the urban streetwall, while the interior facades create a dynamic courtyard.

This concept carries though to the interior organization of the building. All private spaces are located along the perimeter of the building, while communal spaces are oriented towards the interior courtyard. Multi-story mezzanines encourage further socialization between floors.

YEAR 4, SEMESTER 8 ADVANCED DESIGN METHODS physical modelling, Rhino 3d renderings This course required an individual exporation of geometry and advanced design methods. I chose to explore the opportunities and limitations of folding origami patterns and their possible applications to retractable, adaptable architecture. The result was an adaptable shading system which could be adhered to a building envelope. I explored this design largely through physical modelling, resulting in a fully functional 1:2 model.

The 2012 collaborative exercise involved a collective re-imaging of Downsview Park. Our group was given Section 29, located within the centre of the park. Passing through and extending past Section 29 is a network of landing strips that are currently used by Bombardier Inc. for aircraft testing. community library and resource centre
Our design focuses on convergence towards a point; the intersection of the runways. To celebrate the theme of aviation, linear parks have been located along the former runways, and have been elevated to simulate the feeling of an aircraft taking off and landing. The design encorporates a new Bombardier Aviation Museum, a community library, and a skatepark. During this project, I took on a prominant leadership role, and was responsible for the modeling of both the museum and the library/archives buildings.

The site of 114-120 Scollard St. is being redeveloped to accomedate new office space for a personal injury law firm. There are currently three buildings on the site which were originally constructed as residential dwellings. The three structures are now being combined to create one office building.

Through this design, ERA strives to maintain the proportions of the three buildings by carrying the existing exterior walls through the building as interior structural walls. These walls dictate the organizationof the programmed spaces. I have been involved in this project from the schematic design stage through to the development of construction documents. I am largely responsible for the space planning of the interior layout, and I produced the majority of the CAD drawings for the project.

ERA ARCHITECTS Construction documents 571 Jarvis St. was built in 1875 for William H. Johnson, co-owner of Livingston, Johnston and Company. The mansion, designed by prominant architects Langley, Langley and Burke, represents the opulant past of Jarvis St in Toronto. After a long history as a residence, the building is now becoming part of a new facility for Casey House. Casey House is an organization dedicated to the care of individuals with aids. The project involves a large five storey addition to the east of the site. ERA Architects is the heritage consultant for the work on the existing building. Unlike most designated structures, several of the building’s interior spaces are specifically designated. Along with developing the construction documents, I was responsible for producing detailed reflected ceiling plans and interior elevations to ensure the proper restoration of these elements. I was also engaged in the design of a new conservatory, working from historic photographs.

VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE event coordination, Sketchup Modelling, CAD drawings The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario’s ‘NextGen’ was formed in late 2011 by emerging professionals to engage young adults in the field of heritage and develop a sense of community. My most significant contribution to this group has been the organization of the first and second annual design charrettes. The 2013 Charrette focused on the site of 18-20 Trinity St. in the Distillery District of Toronto. I was responsible for collecting and (in some cases) creating resources for the participants. Including a detailed project brief, CAD documents, a comprehensive Sketchup Model, historic photos, planning documents etc. I also coordinated with the Ontario Heritage Trust in regards to the venue space, as well as speakers and judges for the event. Twenty-eight participants in architecture, planning and heritage related careers worked in five teams to develop schemes for the underutilized site.
