FOUNDATION COORDINATOR November 2015 Seattle Parks Foundation (SPF) is a 15-year-old independent nonprofit with a history of successful planning, advocacy, and fundraising on behalf of our city’s public spaces. The Foundation Coordinator is a key team member supporting the growth of our philanthropic activities and community-led projects around the city.
What We Believe We believe that our parks and public spaces are a critical indicator of Seattle’s shared values and overall well-being. In this time of rapid growth and increasing density, access to great parks and recreational facilities is more urgent than ever. We want to live and work in a city where every resident is connected to safe and beautiful green spaces and has access to rich recreational opportunities that meet the needs of a changing population. We believe that truly successful public space projects require community leaders and volunteers who are acutely attuned to the needs of their neighborhoods. Their intelligence and passion deliver successful projects that are sustainable in the long term because community investment is so high from the start. Our public spaces must reflect the dynamism and diversity of all our neighborhoods and cultural communities, tap into the civic entrepreneurship and innovation that shapes our city as a whole, and— above all—be beacons of a shared and deeply embedded commitment to fairness and equal access.
The Culture We are a highly collaborative organization that nurtures a fun yet highly professional and respectful workplace. We are led by a strong and strategically engaged Board of Directors. We are building a staff to reflect the diversity of Seattle and that has the cultural competence to help guide our organization to serve all residents of the city more effectively. We strive to live and work by these values:
We embrace change and are not afraid to address the challenges that come with it. We have high expectations for ourselves and our city. We are willing to go out on a limb publicly, and confront and remake our internal culture, to broaden access to public spaces and enhance equity for all. We lead from behind. We lift up others always. We nurture a culture of learning. We nurture a culture of gratitude; we celebrate and continually thank employees, volunteers, partners, and donors. We are accountable. When we commit, we deliver. We are ambitious and prudent. We work to ensure that dollars have the greatest possible impact in our neighborhoods and across our city.
