Design is thinking made
Saul Bass
This portfolio contains selected works from design projects developed during my time at the Tshwane University of University while completing my Architectural Masters: Professional degree. The projects are chosen to highlight a diverse range of design, layout and software skills and understanding encompassed in my design education and career. Through the explorations of space, tectonics, time, awareness, social interactions and reaction to contextual influences have all been presented in the portfolio. I believe that my educational training and skill set as an architect would be an asset to any graphic design firm, as I have attained the rational, problem-solving, design process skills that
are indispensable and necessary to succeed in multiple design fields. In my personal experience, Architecture course lays a very strong foundation to pursue any other fields of Design Architects are designers at heart and it is the process, research, and overall thought towards visual communication/ conceptualisation and execution through the use of typography, photography and illustration that will serve me well when making the transition. Architecture has, above everything else, taught me to design for people. And I believe that is the most important aspect of any design field.

client based DESIGN
Simplicity, carried to an extreme, becomes elegance John Franklin
Designing a building for a more rural client that focuses on the functionality and surrounding ecological environment and understanding the broad scope of the detailed and intricate elements that the client requires and to create a new brand identity. Designing for a sensitive site as well as very sensitive ecological research ment that special care had to be taken to understand the client and present a design presentation and building that showcased the importance of the client’s mission statement. Therefore the design and presentation were presented in its simplest form through a photographic and black and white representation in order to make the biggest impact.
PRETORIA_2017
An Urban tapestry focuses on surfaces that are interwoven with various textures that create a tension that strengthens the overall fabric. The tapestry can be warped horizontally and vertically by imagining every surface for potential development. With the integration of theses principles, a single texture can form part of an extremely strong three-dimensional urban tapestry framework. The core design is based on these textural elements that form a new urban tapestry appearance for the school and the surrounding community.

URBAN INFILL DESIGN PRETORIA_2017
The design focuses on the exploration and resolution of the complexity of typological housing, reflecting the diverse needs through built courtyards etc.) and aims to become the social infrastructure of the housing; the publicness, the sharing of space and resources and the establishment of a community. To push the creative boundaries of housing in relation to the difficult social, cultural and political aspects of boom street; the project ultimately expresses that our future cities will be livable. As we are problem solvers as architects and urban designers, we are constantly looking for optimistic solutions in the endeavour of making our cities livable.

Community based design
‘You can’t rely on bringing people downtown, you have to put them there’ Jane Jacobs
Through urban infill principals one can remove unused elements from the urban streetscape and redirect the land to open spaces and new construction. Communities and neighbourhoods become more activated and livable through increased urban density. Surrounding urban context of infill sites start acting as a catalyst for contextual themes for new development. Residential modules are arranged in juxtaposition in order to create a courtyard as meeting spaces for the community and residence. The terraced balconies encourage cross views from the first and second floors which orientated towards the main courtyard that serves as the heart of the housing complex.

Graphic Manifesto DESIGN PRETORIA_2017
This project was intended to form a graphic representation of my design journey as well as telling the story behind the journey. Using words in an abstract way that shaped the highlights of my design path in a cohesive way.
