A SUN-KISSED SANCTUARY

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JAMAICA RESILIENCE & TRIUMPH

Let’s take it back to the beginning, sis. Jamaica’s story is one of strength and survival, much like our own. The island was initially inhabited by the Taino people before being discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1494.

As Europeans colonized the land, they brought enslaved Africans to the island, who toiled under brutal conditions. But these resilient ancestors, just like the Travel Divas we are, persevered and fought back. The Maroons, descendants of Africans who escaped enslavement, established their own free communities and fiercely defended their freedom.

In 1962, the winds of change swept over the island as Jamaica gained independence from British rule. The birth of an independent nation was a testament to the unyielding spirit of the Jamaican people, and this legacy of resilience continues to shape the nation today.

Jamaica is a lush, sun-kissed haven, and the ideal destination for Black Girl Magic to flourish. The island, located in the Caribbean Sea, boasts a diverse landscape of powdery white-sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, verdant mountains, and cascading waterfalls. The climate is tropical, with warm temperatures and sunshine year-round, making it perfect for soaking up the sun and rejuvenating your melanin-rich skin.

While most of the island enjoys a balmy climate, the Blue Mountains - Jamaica’s highest point - offer a cooler retreat. So, whether you’re seeking a beachside getaway or a mountain escape, this magical island has you covered, Travel Diva.
