Personal Statement Tree living and cave living are the most ancient habitation type which correspond to the environment naturally. For me, architecture is an attitude towards the relationship between human and environment. The relationship should be positive, benign, and harmonious.

01 CURVE GARDEN —Megastructure Design Type: Academic/ Individual Work Role: All by myself Tutor: Therese Tierney Site: Chicago Time: September~December,2016
Project description The original Mccomick Center can’t satisfy future human needs and is required to be renovated. So, in order to improve the variety of programs and the accessibility to citizens, I change the traditional megastructure form to a urban style which allows people to participate in various activities easier and mitigates the relationship between the big volumn of the building and the wonderful sightseeing of the Michigan Lake on the east.

For the enclosure system, the width of facade panel can adjust itself based on the solar radiation. When it comes to the garden, it also reveals the trees behind.

Since only part of the village is required to be designed in detail, I applied dierent materials for the physical model. Simple blocks for 3-D printing while detail designed model for chip board and lazer cutting. Two different materials surprisingly harmonize working together and give a feeling of contrast.

02 TRINITY —Tall Building Design Type: Academic/ Team Work Role: Model making, Concept design, Plans and Sections Tutor: Michael Kim Site: Chicago Time: January~April,2018
Project description We need to re-design the Trump Tower on its' original site at the request of SOM. The new tower's programs include retail, office, hotel and condominium. Starting with the idea of three towers, we combine them to increase the land use efficiency and tower efficiency. What's more, following the configuration of the tower, the structure is also designed to be more efficient. In addition to the tower, we also propose some sustainable strategies to make up for the huge energy use of the tower. Site

The curtain wall applies a double glazing system. When the air in solar panel area is heated, it goes up to the glazing part and exit from the louvre.

Thus, the air between glazings can flow, and by opening the interior window, fresh air can be introduced inside.

03 CURVE GARDEN —Travelers Inn Design Type: Academic/ Individual Work Role: All by myself Tutor: James Warfield Site: Corfu, Greece Time: September~December,2017
Project description The site is in Corfu, Greece, one of the UNESCO world heritage.By applying natural and flowing shape, traveler inns are like leaves on the site. And designing every unit space into a introverted space, travelers can stay away from noise and chaos of the city but enjoy the quietness. What’s more, by introducing three different kinds of gardens space, people can experience differently.

Introduction Every module consists of two units and forms into a leave-like shape. Between these modules, changeable neighborhood public garden spaces forms and they are owing as well. By introducing stairs, these gardens are connected so that travelers can walk around and have contact with others in a fascinating space.

04 MEMORY RETRIEVING —Museum Design Type: Academic/ Individual Work Role: All by myself Tutor: Kevin Hinders Site: Xi’ an Time: January~April,2017
Project description We see, we hear, we smell, we experience. Our memory lies in everything and spread in millions of nerve cells in the brain. Scientifically, memorizing information go through three process: encoding, storage and retrieval. So, this museum provides a space where people can store, retrieve and share their memories. The tree-like structure is similar to the memory retrieval process. And glass balls with pictures, words and voices hanged on these branches are like every single memory.

Xi’ an, a historical city in China, owns many precious traditions. And the site is between the old city’s south gate and a traditional cultural street. Outside of the gate is the new city. In past decades of years, so much changes happened with the fast development, so citizens are more likely to retrospect and they regard these memories as treasure. This museum provides a significant role in implementing citizens’ memory blank and help them cherish what they have now without regretting after they are gone.

Everyone's memory can be stored in these glass balls. They are hung on the roof and balls that can store memories. During the night, glass balls would shine and visitors in the museum would feel like they are surrounded by stars. What's more, through the round skylight, visitors can also watch the night sky at the same time. This atmosphere can help people remember and retrospect. Standing there and opening everyone's memory balls make the museum active and memorial.

SUPPLEMENT WORKS
Course: Arch576 Performance and Design: Parametric Integration Duration: January 2017~ April 2017 Grasshopper and Galapagos are used in this project to modify and test the solar radiation and illuminance performance of the selected case. Galapagos especially can creat and test seeds generation by generation autimatically, and ďŹ nding the best angle of the louvre. CFD is also used to test the wind performance of the test building.

Company: Dongqi Architects Duration: June 2017~ August 2017 During this internship, I am responsible for a coee shop interior design from the early site and building measurement to the ďŹ nal construction document design. In addition to the interior design, the coee bar and window design are also a part of the whole work. This internship inspires me a lot in detail design which makes me think more about the importance in details.

Course: Arch574 Studio Duration: September 2016 This is the UR-Form study of the study. A certain texture of the organism is selected and modeled with rhino and grasshopper. In this study, I select the cell texture and use grasshopper to simulate it. Using dierent graphs, the results can also be dierent.
Course: Arch502 Duration: November 2016 This is the study of deployable structure. In this study, we choose geodesic dome as the case. This device can fold and expand at a certain range.
Course: Undergraduate Studio Duration: March 2016~ June 2016 This is a hotel design in Foping, Xi'an. View and the water level are two major concerns in this design.
Course: Undergraduate Studio Duration: March 2015~ May 2015 This is a sustainable villa design in Xiamen, China. I applied many sustainable strategies such as cold alley, roof garden, double layer roof, water reservoir, and phase transition cooling strategy.
