PRINCE LAVA – THE NAMESAKE OF LAHORE

The very name of the city is grounded in legend and folklore. Oral history suggests that the city’s namesake, and founder, is Prince Lava - son of the Hindu god, Rama, and the hero of the epic, Ramayana. According to the Holy scripture, Lava’s mother, Sita, banished herself from the kingdom due to the gossip of the locals about her sanctity. I am not surprised that the very origin of the city indicates how gossiping is deeply-rooted in the culture of Lahore.

A temple encased within the Lahore Fort still stands tall yet empty, in honor of Prince Lava.
