Ultrabooks will spark 'stalled' Windows platform
MacBook Air to come in three fresh size avatars in early 2012 Apple has surprised us with a little MacBook Air delight. It seems that the super-slim laptop will now be available in three new avatars next year. The word is that the MacBook Air will be arriving in a 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch variation, as well as the much cherished 15-inch size that's widely acceptable. It's not long before that we have already witnessed some upgrade on the exiting 11- and 13-inch models. These devices are already in production.

Ultrabooks will become mainstream in the coming years, spurring the sputtering Windows platform, according to a Taipei-based report. Speaking at a conference in Taipei, Acer Chairman J.T. Wang said specifications that define the emerging category of ultrabooks will become the "mainstream model for tablet PCs and notebooks in the next five years," according to a report from Taipei Times. Wang added that the release of ultrabooks will stimulate a "stalled" Wintel (Windows-Intel) "framework." He also said that the line between laptops and tablets will become less distinct. That comment matches up with the message that Intel has proselytizing: that ultrabooks will be very touch-centric, giving rise to hybrids that straddle laptop and tablet designs, according to comments reported exclusively by CNET last month. At an Intel Capital conference, CEO Paul Otellini said Windows 8 in 2012 will usher in touch-based ultrabooks. "Starting with Windows 8, you have a mainstream operating system incorporating touch. Our view is that in the ultrabook lines, touch is a pretty critical enabler," he said last month. Wang also repeated an oft-cited mainstream market trigger price of $699. To "increase ultrabook sales volumes, prices need to be kept at about US$699," Wang said, according to the report. He also repeated his prediction that Acer's ultrabook shipments should be between 250,000 and 300,000 in the fourth quarter.
When an internal mail goes out viral after an unfortunate leak, there's nothing but chaos and blind theories. This is just what may happen around us now that we've got word of Samsung shutting out on some brilliant genre of devices. This time its netbooks and well, we're seeing the last of them, if what's said is to be believed. It seems that the trading partners of the gizmo giants were notified that they're expected to shut down all prospects of the manufacturer producing netbooks, early in 2011. The good news is that the letter also said that Samsung will switch focus on its Intel Ultrabooks and ultraportable devices that fall under the 11.6- and 12-inch categories. The death of the 10.1-inch is at hand.
Lenovo Q180 is the 'world's smallest PC Through most of 2011 we saw a tech giants being obsessed about tablets and smartphones. That trend has not shifted to ultrabooks with as much 50 of these from different brands are expected to showup at CES 2012. Lenovo has jumped in at the right time with its neat little computer called IdeaCentre Q180 Desktop PC. Hailed as the world‘s smallest desktop PC, this intends to provide users a small, mobile home theatre solution. Specs include a dual-core Atom processor supported by 4GB of DDR3 memory, choice between a 750GB hard disk drive and 128GB solid state disk for storage. Besides this, there is an HDMI and 7.1 surround sound output and it also gives you the option to upgrade discrete graphics card like a Radeon HD 6450A 512MB but it might not be capable of running all the latest games. For a price of $349, this one could be thought as a handy home cinema hub with some PC-ness addition.

Vigil
Asus have plans for next year that seem quite interesting, and to some degree induce excitement. The Asus Zecate E-450 U32U laptop is destined to make it in the year of judgment, with a 13.3inch screen, AMD Zacate E-450 dual core 1.65 APU, on-board Radeon 6230 graphics, 2 to 4 GB RAM, 320 to 500GB storage, 3x USB 2.0 ports and 2x USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, HDMI, Windows 7 Home Basic and more. That spec sheet is worthy of some notice. We can expect the Asus Zecate E-450 U32U by early 2012 for $509. CES seems to be the venue of choice.
The bottom line: The Asus Transformer Prime is the best full-featured Android tablet yet with a sexy design, thoughtful features, and an impressive camera. Review: Since the launch of the iPad 2, we've been kind of waiting for the Asus Transformer Prime. While we didn't know it existed until a few months ago, the thought of a powerful, robust, and sexy Android tablet has been invading our tablet dreams for months. Google updates Gmail app for iOS
Google made its first significant update to the Gmail app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and it includes some handy new features for organizing labels, notifications. The Gmail app always had support for labels, a very popular feature among Gmail users, but now Google has added the ability to show nested labels. This was an experimental feature in Gmail for a while, but now it‘s a fully integrated way to break your labels down into subdivisions. As for the expressive communication, the new app for iOS does bring in custom signature functionality along with a vacation responder. The most interesting bit in the communication department is the new canvas. In any new email message, if you feel like you can‘t express your thought in words, open up a canvas and start drawing. There‘s different brush styles, colors, sizes, erasers, and spray paint.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
NAVIGON’s Windows Phone 7 app
HTC Radar
Google is prepping a Siri competitor code-named ‘Majel’ Google and Samsung have announced the world's first smartphone running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) - the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a.k.a. Nexus Prime. Featuring a lineup of Google software upgrades such as Face Unlock and NFC-based Android Beam, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has a slightly curved 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen working in 720p (1280x720) resolution, a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and HSPA+ network support as standard, with LTE support depending on the region. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus boasts a 5-megapixel rear camera equipped with autofocus, LED flash, zero shutter lag feature, improved low-light performance and panoramic picture mode. It's capable of capturing 1080p Full HD 30fps videos and there's also a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls. Other hardware specs aren't too shabby either 16/32GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz/ 5GHz), Wi-Fi hotspot mode and 1,750 mAh battery. Galaxy Nexus also incorporates a number of sensors including accelerometer, compass, gyro, light, proximity and a barometer. The smartphone has a slip-resistant hyper-skin backing and a slightly round-shaped housing and it measures just 8.94 mm (0.35 inch) thick and weighs 135 g (4.76 oz).
The Radar is HTC's mid-range Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) phone. The Radar has a more conservative 3.8in 480x800-pixel S-LCD screen. It's compact and, at 137g, is 3g lighter than its predecessor – 2010‘s HTC 7 Trophy. The HTC Radar, like many of HTC‘s recent handsets, is made almost entirely out of a single sheet of aluminium. The Radar has a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. However, the Radar is powered by Qualcomm‘s MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset, which has an Adreno 205 processor at its core. This has around four times the performance of the Trophy‘s Adreno 200. There‘s 8GB of internal storage, of which you only see 6GB, and no support for microSD cards for expansion. The lack of expandable storage isn't HTC's fault, as, like Apple's iOS, Windows Phone doesn‘t support external storage, but we would have liked to have seen 16GB inside the phone. The Radar's 5-megapixel camera has a backilluminated sensor and f/2.2 lens, which yields impressive results in low-light conditions. Video is captured at 720p.
Now that Apple is making Siri the focal point of its iPhone 4S, the competition is going to have to catch up and Google is reportedly baking its voice-control response under the code-name ―Majel,‖ according to a report from AndroidandMe. Why Majel? Well, Majel BarrettRoddenberry was the proper name of the voice of the computer in Star Trek and along with being ultra geeky, it fits into the general approach Google has to voice control. It‘s an interesting approach and one you‘d expect from Google. The AndroidandMe report said Majel will likely first only include search results but it will eventually provide an extremely-beefed up Google Voice Action experience.
NAVIGON updated its Windows Phone 7 app, allowing users to download maps by state, while also including other features to the mix. Here‘s what‘s new: NAVIGON MyMaps – separates the app from the maps so you can only download maps you‘ll need, saving some space on your device in the process. Active Lane Assistant – reflects the current lane configuration and enables drivers to see ahead with orange line indicating the way the driver should follow. Live Weather – current weather conditions along the route and at the destination in realtime. Optimized positioning
Apple iOS 5.1 beta 2
The recently released beta 2 brings a feature we‘ve all been longing for since iOS 5.0: the ability to delete individual photos from the Photo Stream. One of the great advantages of Photo Stream is that it‘s so effortless. Snap a photo, and it‘s already in Photo Stream, which means it‘s on all your other devices within a few seconds. This is also a major disadvantage too, since most people don‘t want every single photo they take on all of their devices. Apple only gave us the option for all photos in Photo Stream or none whatsoever. Thankfully, that‘s about to change once iOS 5.1 is released to consumers. At the top of the Photo Stream album in the Photos app is a small, familiar delete button. Tap it to bring up a brief message that reads ―This photo will be removed from the Photo Stream on all your devices.‖ along with the option to confirm the deletion — such a simple feature, yet it was neglected up until this point. This is a godsend for frequent party-goers.

Move over, Android 4.0.2, a new version is coming to town. The next incremental update for Ice Cream Sandwich, appropriately named Android 4.0.3 brings a few new features, a handful of bug-fixes, as well as a whole new API level. The Android Developers blog highlighted a few new APIs that you‘ll find in 4.0.3: Social stream API in Contacts provider: Applications that use social stream data such as status updates and check-ins can now sync that data with each of the user‘s contacts, providing items in a stream along with photos for each. This new API lets apps show users what the people they know are doing or saying, in addition to their photos and contact information. Calendar provider enhancements. Apps can now add color to events, for easier tracking, and new attendee types and states are now available. New camera capabilities. Apps can now check and manage video stabilization and use QVGA resolution profiles where needed. Accessibility refinements. Improved content access for screen readers and new status and error reporting for text-to-speech engines. Incremental improvements in graphics, database, spell-checking, Bluetooth, and more. Android 4.0.3 will begin to roll out in the ―weeks ahead‖ and will also be the base version of Ice Cream Sandwich going forward.

Nikon announces SB-910 high-end Speed light
Nikon has announced the SB-910, the flagship flashgun in its Speedlight range. Replacing the SB-900, the 910 gains the simpler graphic user interface (GUI) of the less powerful SB-700. Its more advanced thermal protection system slows the flash recycle time, rather than it simply shutting down to prevent overheating. It comes with hard filters for matching fluorescent and tungsten lighting and automatically switches the camera's white balance to match the filter. Similarly it adjusts the available zoom steps to suit the body (FX or DX) that it's attached to. The SB910 will be available from mid-December, priced around $549.95.

Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD IF Macro 1:1
Our lens review for today is the Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD IF Macro 1:1. The APS-C version of the popular Tamron 90mm macro, the 60mm is smaller, and offers a fast f/2 aperture, and according to Tamron, a longer working distance for 1:1 reproduction - 100mm. The focal length and fast aperture also make it a great portrait lens.
Fujifilm has announced the X-S1, a premium-grade superzoom compact. The X-S1 is part of the company's high-end 'X Series' and is built around the same 12MP 2/3" CMOS sensor as the X10 compact. Despite the comparatively large sensor, it manages to include a 26X 24-624mm equivalent F2.8-5.6 zoom lens. It also features Raw shooting, a 1.44M dot electronic viewfinder and 460,000 dot rear LCD along with a rubberized coating and metal dials to emphasize its premium 'Made in Japan' status.
Camera Features: - 26x Optical Zoom. - 12 megapixel EXR CMOS sensor. - Large EVF with 1.44 million pixels and 26 degree viewing angle. - Full HD video. - PASM modes. - Raw file format. - Optical image stabilization. - 360째 Motion Panorama mode.
Casio Japan has announced the Exilim EX-ZR200, a 16MP compact superzoom with a back-lit CMOS sensor. No details of a US or European launch have yet been given but, with its 24300mm equivalent zoom lens and 30fps full resolution shooting and PASM modes, it's extremely likely it will replace the EX-ZR100. Like the ZR100, it can shoot 1080p30 movies with H.264 compression. It also features multi-image modes to capture ultra-wide angle shots and create background blur.

Adobe faces criticism for change of upgrade policy
Olympus 45mm f/1.8 ED M.Zuiko
Photoshop trainer and author Scott Kelby has published an ‗open letter‘ to Adobe requesting it re-thinks its product upgrade policy. The company, in a recent blog post about its ‗Creative Cloud‘ online computing service, revealed that it will only allow owners of the most recent versions of Photoshop and Creative Suite to upgrade to the CS6 versions, when they become available. This moves away from its traditional position of allowing owners of the previous three versions a discounted upgrade. The company is offering a 20% discount for these owners to bring themselves up-to-date in time for the policy change.
SIGMA 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC HSM F/SONY, F/PENTAX It is believed that the very idea of creating such a device appeared long ago, before the middle ages. An Arab mathematician named Ibn Al-Haytham created the first model of camera, but the principle of its building was well known even earlier, in Aristotle period. The first photograph was an image produced in the 1820s by the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce on a polished pewter plate covered with a petroleum derivative called bitumen of Judea. Produced with a camera, the image required an eight-hour exposure in bright sunshine.
The compact and lightweight PENTAX K-r offers photographic performance that challenges higher class DSLR models:
High quality 12.4 megapixel CMOS sensor with high color accuracy and low noise. Large 3 inch, 921,000 dot LCD with Live View. Powerful automatic shooting modes, such as Auto Picture mode and various scene modes. Fast 6 FPS frame rate. Highly responsive and accurate 11 point SAFOX IX autofocus. High sensitivity 100-25600 ISO range with improved noise performance. Li-Ion and AA battery compatibility (AA batteries can be used via optional adapter). Widescreen HD 720p video at 25 FPS using any PENTAX lens. A maximum 1/6000 second shutter speed. A viewfinder focus point indicator. Improved in-camera HDR image capture. A wide range of in-camera image processing and special effects filters.
The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC HSM for Sony, and for Pentax. This large aperture standard zoom lens is designed for digital SLR cameras and covers a focal length from 17mm wide angle. It is a compact lens with an overall length of just 91.8mm (3.6‖). This lens offers a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, making it ideal for many types of photography such as portraiture and landscapes. Two FLD (―F‖ Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite glass, compensate for color aberration. Two glass mold and one hybrid aspherical lens, provide excellent correction for field curvature and astigmatism. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghost. This lens has superior peripheral brightness and provides sharp, high contrast images even at the maximum apertures. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. Incorporating HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), the lens provides fast and quiet AF. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 28cm (11‖) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5. The rounded 7 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus images. The inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for use with the supplied petal-type lens hood and circular polarizing filters. 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM for Sony .
The Olympus 45mm ƒ/1.8 m.Zuiko is a very sharp lens. Wide open at ƒ/1.8, the central region of the image is tack-sharp, with very light corner softness; there's not much difference in stopping down to ƒ/2, but by ƒ/2.8, the lens is as sharp as sharp gets. It's sharp all the way through to ƒ/16, where a slight hint of diffraction limiting is present, but it's still really sharp even at this aperture. At ƒ/22 there is only very slight softness across the frame. This single-focal-length portrait lens has a beautiful shallow depth of field which allows for background blurring effects that are not possible with the 1442mm kit zoom lens. The Movie-Still-Compatible (MSC) mechanism utilizes nearly ―silent‖ focusing technology. It is great for tracking a moving child or pet, and provides a quick and silent focus mechanism for movies and still photography.

But how do they film 3D movies? The film makers need to sync the moment very good, the distance, the height and the angle so that it would seem that the movie has been made using real human sight, from two positions. As I understand it, it‘s like having two cameras, one could represent the left eye when you close the right eye and another one could represent the right eye when you close the left one. In the end, 3D is all about recreating our natural vision and the trying to reproduce what nature has already done for us. When it comes down to computer graphics that are used to make movies like Toy Story 3 or any other 3D animation, the creators have to make two different versions of each frame; with specific perspective for the left and right eye. The advantage is that it‘s easier to synchronize the images but it takes more time to polish them.
