Poker: All the Stats Facts You'll Ever Need to Know

Poker is one of the few games where you can get a mathematical edge. If you study enough games and know what stats to follow, you can increase your win percentage by a significant margin. And with the growing popularity of online poker, the competition has grown tenfold and players need to take every advantage that they can. Here are some of the most important stats one can familiarise themselves with to improve their poker game. The type of stats in online poker can be generalised into type basic categories: preflop and post-flop stats. Preflop Stats Preflop, as the name suggests, refers to the round before the three community cards are opened. At this stage, the stats that can help you are:

Voluntarily Put money In Pot (VPIP): VPIP refers to the chips a player puts in the pot by playing the hand in Texas holdem poker. Raising, calling someone’s raise, or just limping-in are all part of VPIP stats. A higher VPIP stat indicates that a player is playing a loose game, while tight and aggressive (TAG) players tend to have a lower VPIP stat. Keep this in mind when you play online poker live. Raise First-In (RFI): This can be considered a subset of VPIP, as it refers to the times a player raises when they are first into the pot. An RFI above 30% is considered aggressive, while lower than 20% would indicate a timid game. 3Bet: This stat shows how often a player makes a re-raise when they face a preflop raise. A winning player would have a 3Bet% of 3% to 6% for the whole game. Fold to 3Bet: This shows how often a player folds against a re-raise. Having a high % of folding will keep your profits low. So, learn to defend post-flop plays and keep your fold to 3Bet stat under 60%. Fold to Steal: This stat shows how much big blind folds when facing a raise. If your fold to steal stat is over 65% in online poker live, you need to rethink your strategy! Post-Flop Stats Cbet Flop: When you play online poker live, this stat shows how much a player continues to stay aggressive on the flop. Keep this stat between 45-60% as your general strategy. Fold to Cbet: This stat shows how often a player folds to a preflop aggression in Texas holdem poker. 40-60% is a good bracket to be in. Cbet Turn: This shows how often a player continues their aggression on the turn. Try to stay in the 45-65% mark.

Went to Showdown (WTSD): This is an important stat and shows how often you get to the end of the game. If this stat is too high, it means you are sticking to some hands that you should have folded. Try to stay around 21-32%. Won Money at Showdown: This shows how many times you end up winning in a showdown. Of course, you want this stat to stay high. 50-60% is a good area to be in. River Call Efficiency: This stat shows how effectively you call on the river. If this stat is lower than 1, this means you call on weak hands, higher than 2 means you are missing some calls. Keep these stats in mind the next time you play Texas holdem poker and your online poker game will improve significantly.
