FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS
Father and son, Segundo Garcia (L) and Belver Garcia (R), coffee producers from the CECAFE cooperative in Lonya Grande, Peru
SEASON’S GREETINGS FROM SHARED INTEREST & HEARTFELT THANKS FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT It is estimated that more than 150,000 families in Peru rely on coffee for their income but the difficult terrain presents significant challenges for smallholder farmers in the region. CECAFE brings together 800 farmers in the Amazonas region, who believe that their coffee is a symbol of wellbeing and shows the value of working with nature. The co-operative produces high quality Fairtrade and organic coffee, grown amidst rainforest and mountain ranges. The farmers work carefully, to ensure environmental sustainability, adopting soil conservation methods and using their coffee pulp for compost. In their dedication to protect and preserve their surroundings, they have also launched a 40-year reforestation project.
Wildlife and climatic conditions allow us to grow an exceptional coffee bean.
CECAFE promotes agricultural diversification as a way for families to increase their economic stability & food security. They also run a programme for women coffee farmers and have 165 female members. Shared Interest has supported CECAFE for almost a decade, providing finance to ensure farmers are paid on time, and to help increase production.
Feeling the trust that Shared Interest gives us is something that motivates us a lot; especially if it comes from people whom we have a lot of respect and admiration for. Thank you for supporting our co-operative venture. Segundo Garcia
