It just takes some awareness on your part to understand what they are saying to you. The crest feathers are a good visual indicator of what your cockatiel is feeling. The crest feathers are the group of feathers that stand up on the top of his head. Your cockatiel moves those feathers up or down in keeping with his mood and what he is feeling at the moment. A happy, contented cockatiel Your cockatiel will have his crest feathers down toward the back of his head with just the tips pointing up. He will usually be singing, whistling or grinding his beak.
