Introduction The musings of a young impressionable mind, her rantings, her wishes, her dreams. Her realities and her fears are all encapsulated in these few pages of prose and poetry that develops outside of the boundaries of the punctuational prisons we often foist our students into. This anthology is a project in pushing the paradigms from the thoughts of a young aspiring author. Enjoy...

I’m Alive I don’t care what you say, Because I have my own, You can’t change my ways, Because I’ve made my own.
Nobody can bring me down, I’m strong, Never weak, My words are spoken true, Never wrong, You will not effect me, I’m alive.
I step out into the world, And people excoriate me, But I don’t care, I see myself as a leader, Not a follower. 9

Fire Inside of Me I want to be free But I’m burning inside I just want to be me But I’m scared to show it outside
I worry sometimes that my spirit will die And when I get to God’s heaven My wing’s won’t fly And I’ll be left to die
God loves me now But who will love me later My spirit is like wow That I’m just a waiter
Like the fire inside of me That is too bright for anyone to see The fire is too hot for me And I hope to die in peace

Life Without Love Life without love Has to be a mis-readable meaning I dream of how life is filled with love Life without love is a horrible dream
Life without love As God did not make it so I believe that God made love And life like butterflies in my stomach Life without love is like my whole world is atomic
Men and women all around the world all fall in love It brings you back to heaven and reminds you of the cute white doves. There is nothing more exciting in the world other than love According to me and people around the world. There is no such thing like life without love

Just Because I’m Black Just because I’m black They think I’m whack They don’t know that I’m smart and that I can do a lot of things like pop art
I don’t feel that I’ll be hurting The rest as well as their feelings are hurting Let me calm my words before they start again The others will lose and I will win again
They think because I’m black I can’t reach my goals Just like me they’re black And they have no soul
Just because I’m black They think I can’t speak as I please Just because I’m black 15

Who I Am Who I am Is not who she is Or who they are Who I am Is not the person who you are And you will never see the person who I am Astute, honest and loyal That is the person that I am That is who you will never be Look me square in the face Look directly into my eyes And realize Who you are and who I am inside and out We may be the same But always different either one way or more Look above and beyond And see the person who I am

When Susie Wears Red When Susie wears red That means there’s blood on the dance floor And there’s blood everywhere We know that Susie’s not scared But what are you She stands in your bedroom listening And watching every move you make There’s nowhere to run There’s nowhere to hide Because when Susie wears red We’re all out for a bloody ride

When I lose someone dear You’re always near When I’ve had it up to here You lean and tell me something sweet in my ear God made you sweet and nice He made you in the image of winter ice I never thought something could be this good Especially in this hood

Morphine Morphine was the dangerous prescription drum that the King of Pop once used It was used, overdosed on and abused He died with a warning from his body and God Morphine and Propofol killed Michael Jackson The man I still haven't’ forgotten He sometimes had trouble performing as if he were Under a spell I loved Michael Jackson and I still do sing along with the Millions of CD’s still for sale I don’t like what happened to him and I’m not going to let it go If you don’t know If you find out that Conrad Murray caused his death Don’t say it didn’t happen so Because it did And if it happens to you You’ll want people to know too

Secret Lover I’m in love I bet you didn’t know that
You never see me around the corner Flirting with someone cute
I’m in love But you don’t see me at the nightclub Dancing with strangers
I’m in love But I stay to myself most of the time Only sometimes that love is on my mind
Secret love Love is hidden somewhere you’ve never been
I’m in love Love is something you’ve never seen

Irish Power Just because I’m black They think I’m a negro But based on what they see They don’t know I’m my own hero
I’m not just black, I’m white too If you know how I feel, this doesn’t Apply to you People call me great white, but can’t you see When you think of great white You’re not talking about me
When you look at me you see A heart that has once been broken You don’t know how it feels, it’s just broken You’re gambling with the life you’ve never had I want you to experience the places I’ve been
I feel lost nowhere else to go I am Irish and strong as you should know

Why are you so mean? Why are you so mean? You get angry and turn into some kind of machine What did I do to make you so mad? It’s like I really want us to be friends And when that happens I’ll be glad
Why are you so mean? All I want to do is play a game Ever since you started hanging around the neighborhood crowd You’ve turned into someone I don’t know anymore You’ll never be the same
Why are you so mean? What did I ever do to you To make you not notice me for who I am And who I want to be just like you
What in the world makes you so mean? I want to know,

How it feels to be colored me I am colored now But I used to be absolutely white I stood out in the sun to get a sun tan Now I am colored
I know that whites are no different from me Because I am white too I am colored I don't’ want them to hate, but to appreciate Because I am colored but white too
My lightness doesn’t matter The color of my skin doesn’t make me who I am inside Being colored makes me proud of who I am How it feels to be colored me This is who I am and this is who I have to be I remember the very day I became colored I was no different from others
How it feels to be colored me
