Help Available for Past Due Water Bills
The Lorain County Community Action Agency (LCCAA), which serves all of Lorain County, was awarded $1.1 million in Home Relief Grant (HRG) funds to assist households impacted by COVID-19.
Programs to help with past due rent and past due water bills opened Nov. 9. The rent program filled in less than four hours.
The water program remains open, but residents should apply quickly. Funds are only available until Dec. 30.
To qualify, you must live at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. If your water service is not currently connected or if you have received a disconnect notice, your application will be given priority.
Applications for water assistance are being taken through the agency’s website at this link: https://www. lccaa.net/programs/home_relief_ grant-water_assistance
Seniors are urged to apply through the United Way’s UCAN Network, to which LCCAA has allocated a portion of its funding. If you are 65 or older, apply at www.ucanapply. org.
All payments are made directly to the utility companies. You must be past due to apply.
Eligibility criteria, required documents and frequently asked questions are posted at www.lccaa. net under Programs. Look for Home Relief Grant.
The agency is not able to accept phone calls to answer questions about this program. All applicants will be called by an advocate and will receive a written confirmation letter in the mail.
