Extend Learning Outdoors This Fall

Hello Head Start Families!

Summer of 2022 is gone and autumn is here! We are about a month into school, and I hope you and your child are excited for the new learning experiences we have planned for this year.

I always say that October is such a great month for your child to experience the seasonal changes. It’s time to enjoy the cooler, crisp air and the wonderful colors nature has to offer us during this this time of year.

It’s the perfect time to be outdoors. Your child can learn science, math, and language very easily through a nature walk and have fun doing it. Loose parts like leaves, acorns, pine cones and stones can be used for counting, sorting and more. Patterns are everywhere in nature. Encourage your child to ask questions about what they see and just be curious – you don’t have to know the answers, you can Google!

As our staff returned from summer break, we began with our traditional pre-service trainings. We choose a theme for each program year. This year we chose “The Journey.” We have certainly been on a complex journey over the past two years with the pandemic and making all necessary adjustments.

It’s time to move along in our journey and press toward our goals for this program year. Let’s bring in the autumn season and have some fun with all of the wonderful learning experiences in our classrooms, and at home. Pumpkins, apples, cider, leaves changing colors and all of the rest! Happy Fall!
