The coronavirus pandemic has upended everything, including people’s trust in the places and spaces where we work. Are we really saying goodbye to open office layout?

FORUMS

To plan our new reality, designers are forced and challenged to re- consider the social distancing layout providing necessary and vital supplies for the health supply chain. First of all, pods design could be a way to replace open office because its somewhat similar. Cubicles are meant to be semi-private hence pods could be too with glass wall panel and ventilation fans with built-in air purifiers are activated to provide a continuous flow of clean air. In addition, doors, lights, any switches are based on facial recognition or voice activation to contactless entry. Rather than 4 enclosed walls, there will be skylight for natural daylighting and has the same amount of space as traditional desks. Lastly, the pods layout resembles the traditional open office layout as its hexagon shaped so its can placed side by side shown below. I think this is best alternative for these pandemic changes.

Open space offices floor plan is being reconsider due distancing limitation and that being so, are we saying companies may want to preserve a workplace cultur layout of open offices following the rules and regulat that registered as cubicle but with sealed off from an ventilation, purifier, skylight to allow natural lighting recognition hence no physical contact.

Since, it is in a hexagon shaped, it can be placed side designed and re-decorated to the individual employe could be a relatively safe solution for employee who

REFLECTION REPORT

Professional Development Week

PWD SUMMARY

I’ve attended 7 classes during the Professional Development Week. The first class was Recruiter's Insights by CIMB and it was a good talk on employment, hierarchy and how different branches different approach to management, finance and dealing with customers. Next class was Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduates by STASHAWAY, it was an interesting class because he talked about how we are prioritizing our expenses rather than investing or spending on something that is beneficial and profiting and how much we could be saving on by eliminating unnecessary expenses such as things that a want than a need. The third class was Preparing for a Global Career" by TDCX, they talked how to be successful and manage a healthy work-life balance. Topic on how we must choose a job that we are passionate about and having a goal rather than the sake of 9-6 routine. What is our purposes in life, which path we are choosing, the opportunities and promotion within the company/ department rather than outside your job. You can control time, money and achievements but which is your choice. One of my favourite class was Best Practices & Careers in Brand Management" by McDONALD'S, he talked so passionately about Mcdonalds marketing to attract consumers such as listening/ understanding their consumers like the Spicy Korean Burger was in high demand because most Korean food are non-halal, in order for Muslims to have a taste of Korea, they invented the Spicy Korean Burger. To ensure a right place for the quality, ensuring frequent promotions and lastly having their employee to understand and taste it when consumers ask for recommendation. Next class was Entrepreneurship -The Journey by HANS MEDIA, he talked about the up and down of owning a business during the pandemic, how he cope with it and how he is preventing it to go bankruptcy. Since, he is running an FB business and vegetables and fruits are a staple ingredient. Eventually the ingredients would go bad when the business is low so in order to prevent loss, he had his employee to shop for the staples at a lower price rather than in a supermarket. This class, Best Practices, Challenges Career Opportunities in the Creative Design Industry by The R&D Studio caught my attention because Creative Design was my second choice course. I learned about how it takes times and patience (not a one day job timeline) to direct, piece and animate a film together even though what you had in your mind might be what you see in film and essentially, it is a teamwork, not a individual work. Learn to take criticizing as people have different opinions, improvement and practice is important and lastly to not give up. Last day of class was Storyteller Lessons from the Creative Media Industry by WILDSNAPPER TV. She talked about how she on TV and finding on which path she want to go to. Before getting a full-time job, its best to explore to find what you like/ good at. Offer to be an intern for 2-3 months in different companies to gain experiences and skills, to never burn bridges and keep relations open. Lastly, start freelancing to build connection and opportunities.
