This weekend home is designed for a scattered parsi family of 35 people to bring them close together again and rejuvenate their childhood memories. The client was a straunch believer of sustainability and demanded to reuse as much material as possible. Surrounded by a chickoo farm in the south direction, the site offered a number of possibiliies to explore ecological architecture.

In a town that offers the best local stone in the state, gave us an opportunity to work on an exposed material palette. The client, a businessman of a kiln was also keen on using bricks, stone and concrete in its true form and texture. As the site was set on the banks of river Kaveri, we lifted the entire house to experience the serenity of the river.

An experiment of FILLER SLAB was carried out to observe the results in terms of ashetics and to analyse the reduction of concrete used per sqm. which was significant.

It was an interesting challenge to rejuvenate an iconic 25 year old expose concrete structure located in the heart of the city. The main objective was to propose a three storeyed parking block and also enhance the serenity while providing a space for solace and consolation to the users.

REDEVELOPMENT OF THE OLD CIVIL HOSPITAL ARCHITECTURE DESIGN THESIS

LOCATION: SURAT, GUJARAT BUILT-UP AREA: 3250 sqm.

Our city is known for its British colonial architecture with a significant infulence of Parsi culutre. Built in 1865, this building was sanctioned to be demolished b the SMC. A VOCATIONAL REDEVELOPMENT CENTRE was proposed using the concept of adaptive reuse in architecture. A VRC is a training centre for the phsyically and mentally disabled. 27 cities have this facility operational successfull across India.
