STUDIO 9 URBAN INSULAE
An urban design project which explored the possibilities within a given site close to the city core of Mysore city. The idea was to develop a scheme which would strike a balance between the much debated topics of heritage preservation and introduction of modern design. CELEBRATION OF ART: Mysore is the cultural capital of the state,was the home for many famous musicians, music composers ,dancers and sanskrit scholars. Mysore university and many other academic and scientific institutions are situated here.This obviously led to the city boasting of great scholars,writers and ,in general, intellectuals.The era of the kingdom of mysore is considered the golden age for the developement of various forms of art, The Mysore kings were not only accomplished exponents of the fine arts and men of letters, they were enthusiastic patrons as well, and their legacies continue to influence music and art even today.
MUSEUM OF MODERN ART: A museum presupposes collecting.It is a compilation of art objects that have been taken out of economic circulation, and need to be protected and exhibited in a self contained space. a museum stands for the romantic reverence of art and the spirit of identity.It is the physical manifestaion of an archive of memories and provides the canvas to paint new ideas. it takes the role of a treasury,a gallery,a cultural hub,an eductional institute or a theme park. A place like mysore provides the perfect backdrop for such an institution. A museum of international standard is what we consider the missing piece in the puzzle .
